Meaning, is the plan to offer a monster stat/items supplement pdf online like was done with HOTD/ROT? So one can use the basic rules, or will you need the three core rulebooks to utilize the adventure?

AFAIK, that's the plan: it should be able to be run with just the Basic Rules + supplement.

Cheers!

The supplement will probably go up at the same time the book goes on sale... if jury duty doesn't interfere. :(

Cheers!

That is going to be the running joke for this edition, isn't? :)

I can only imagine that Mike and the other Wizards staff are even more frustrated with the situation than we are. Mike wanted to tell us about a lot of stuff (in particular licensing), but they've been mostly silent - and I'm pretty sure that this jury duty is the reason.

Cheers!

At present, no, you'll need at least the MM.
If/when they release the supplement, then maybe.

In the Encounters Version, the new monster entries in the back are exactly that: new. Anything in the PHB or MM isn't reprinted.

And you will definitely need the ebook Player's Companion (or willingness to heavily modify) to use the new monsters, and they're a key element.

In the first 3/4 of the first chapter of the encounters version, you'll need the MM for at least 2 entries. (The rest are in the DMBR).
In the wilderness encounter tables of same, there are 5 in the MM but not the DMBR.

One can fake around it...
