I agree, it was a good answer from the Sage - basically that yes by the book you can PA on a CDG, but there's nothing wrong with house-ruling that you can't.

As Thanee already pointed he actually said the exact opposite, by the rules you cannot benefit from PA on a CdG. I as most others here will continue playing it like you can though.

Actually he said that by the book you cannot use PA on a CDG, since CDG is not a melee attack, but he would allow it still.

Whereas I'd say that the damage dealt by a melee weapon on a CDG is melee damage.

An ability that gave bonus damage on all attacks with a melee weapon would, IMO, apply on a CDG with a melee weapon; likewise, an ability that affects melee damage should apply on a CDG with a melee weapon.

Trainz, when all is said and done maybe you can send a link to this thread to Skip. Good question, good answer!

Yeah, that'll probably be a lot quicker than copy-pasting all the drivel we write :)

The glossary states a 'melee attack roll' is 'an attack roll during melee combat'.

If we transfer that to 'melee damage roll' that would be 'a damage roll made if you succesfully hit a creature during melee combat' or something like that.

But since a CdG never occurs in melee per it's definition you can't really talk about melee attack roll or melee damage roll.

Remember you actually have to be threatened by the opponent in order for it to be melee, and he can't if he is helpless.

Hey, does this mean my sorceress, who happens to be unarmed, cannot be attacked in melee, since she has no threatened area around herself? :D

Bye

Oh I already did seconds after creating the thread. I sent him a link, suggesting that 48 hours should be more than enough to generate enough posts for his FAQ and Sage Advice needs.

I'm happy that everyone feels this turned out nice.
