Power Cards, Cheat Sheets, and the Wii: Why I want legal PDFs

Having read some threads on the Maptools forums about different frameworks in the works for 4e, I think there are a number of gamers who are using scripts to pull out the xml to autobuild a library of tokens that have all the appropriate information.

Not sure how far along they are with this, and certainly posting such a library to a public forum would be a violation of something. :)

It's even better for combats: I can skip giving a visual description of every monster, because, with legal PDFs, I can copy the image out of the PDF, put the monsters together in one image, and put it up on the Wii.
I realize this is a side issue, but if WotC decided to reverse their position on having no legal PDFs for sale, would you be willing to pay the price. Did you for the PDFs that were available (at least everything up to and including the PHB2 for 4E)?

Remember, the position has been to charge basically the cover price of the print versions for a PDF. For a bit during the 4E error there was a slight discount on that prices, but I believe the core price was still listed as being the same as the print copy.

Otherwise, even if you win this battle (which seems unlikely), you still wouldn't have what you wanted.

but since the 3.5 debacle I don't trust WotC on the longevity front, particularly given the ongoing expertise and masterwork armor issues.

For my edification, can you elaborate on what the "3.5 debacle" was? Also, what are the ongoing expertise and masterwork armor issues? You don't have to rehash the whole thing, just an executive summary if you don't mind.

Thanks so much!

This. I always wonder why no one bought them when they were available. If they were a huge cash cow loved by many I think WoTC might have kept them going (Instead I remember them referring to the sales as very insignificant to the bottom line). It was not like the pulling of the pdfs happened after only a short availability (esp. for the older edition stuff). If I was WotC I would make them available again but only after a pre-order bar for a given download was reached (like was done for the Firefly DVD set). This way people could really put their money where their mouth was.
