I cannot believe people honestly believe this obviously transphobic rubbish designed to mock trans people.

What the naughty word guys.
Presuming I'm right to read your post unironically, that list is from MedicineNet, which is run by WebMD, and has no anti-inclusive slant that I'm aware of, transphobic or otherwise.

Let people pick their own gender and art for the pregen character.

You don’t need art to play so if they don’t have it at session one because you don’t do a session zero who cares. They get to then customize their character in a non mechanical way early on. Winner.

Just use a temporary token until they supply you with the art.

WebMD hosts qutie a lot of misinformation and naughty word too, and has been criticised extensively. An offshoot will likely contain the same.

That's besides the point, as well, because a whole shitton of medicine and health information misrepresents the trans community and makes a bunch of stuff up about us, consistently, and constantly.

Here's a study from Rutgers Ernest Mario School of Pharmacy. It says of MedicineNet

MedicineNet was identified as the least reliable website, with the
lowest average score, deficiencies in safety information, and the
highest number of statistically significant differences favoring other
in our pair-wise comparison

It's not a valid source.

If you wanted accurate information about the trans community, you would be going to LGBTQIA+ organisations or trans specific organisations. Never, in my life, has any of those groups mentioned 72 genders. They will mention a spectrum of gender identity, of various different pronouns (a list that is not exhaustive), etc. but no specific list.

As well as that, the origin of 72 genders does not come from the trans commuinity or LGBT community. I can't even find the origin, because all that google spits back at me is absolute rubbish, and specifically nothing from the actual community.

Let's take a look at the list. Some things listed are characteristics of different gender identities, but I have NEVER seen anyone refer to it as a specific gender. And some, are absolutely, naughty word nonsense designed to mock us.

Anxiegender: This gender identity has anxiety as its prominent characteristic. Healgender: A gender identity that gives the person peace, calm, and positivity.

That's just. Crap. Just crap.

So no, I'm fairly certain from everything I have read and experienced, that the whole 72 gender thing is transphobic as hell at worst, or completely misunderstands the community at best.

Fair enough, I suppose. But that same study says that Healthline is "the most reliable website," which in turn refers to the Nonbinary wiki as a source, itself having a very expansive list of nonbinary identities.

Now admittedly, "anxiegender" and "healgender" aren't on there, but I'm simply not comfortable with the suggestion that those identities are "designed to mock" anyone, since I've seen spaces in queer communities that make use of those terms. Saying that they only exist to denigrate someone else doesn't accomplish anything except to direct hate and intolerance toward people whom I suspect already have more than enough of that in their lives.

I apologise, I came out too strong about it. I've talked to trans people who are more knowledge; the problematic part here is focusing on there being "72 other specific genders" and not saying it is an inexhaustive list of feelings associated with identities and some identities. It's missing a lot of context and considering the manner it's being used here, it has a lot of issues.

Personally and in the wider community, naughty word is not good right now, and that's made me way too jumpy. I'll bow out.

I'm running a one-shot dungeon crawl for an upcoming virtual game convention. I am providing pre-generated characters with back-story. The audience is: Virtual Greyhawk Con.

The characters and their backgrounds are deliberately written as non-gender referenced, but I included masculine and feminine selectable art.

It got me thinking: is there a socially-required ratio? I don't have time to create art for the 72 different genders for 6 different characters and there is no story reason for doing so.

Traditionally, World of Greyhawk adventures would have 5/6 characters as masculine and one feminine. Should I just stick with tradition? It is 95% likely all of my players will be older male players.

Characters:
(knighted) Kerreck the Gray, Oeridian, Fighter (Champion)
Aramil, wood elf, Fighter (Eldritch Knight)
Evendur the Theurigst, Oeridian, Wizard
Kam bojo, gnome Apprentice to Evendur (Monk/Wizard)
'Courser', dwarf, Ranger (Gloom Stalker)
Theren the Trickster, half-elf, Rogue (Arcane Trickster)
Let the players choose (or not) the gender because there is no mechanical (and probably no narrative) impact.
Give the players 72 names to choose from - or have them choose from the PHB.
Skip the images, or give them 1 minute to find an image that they like on their phones for their own characters.
