Prerequisites forItem Creation Feat

Here's my rationale for not allowing something like a "race/class/feat component" to be added by a 2nd party.

Yup, I agree.

A spell prerequisite is like charging a battery. It doesn't matter where the spell comes from.

A skill or racial prerequisite implies a deep understanding of what you are working into the item... I don't think that could just be "channeled" by having an elf posing for you while you make your Cloak of Elvenkind.

Of course, I would allow a creator to make a Monk Tattoo as long as he added two finely-ground seventh level monks to the recipe...

I think that making a +10 item fora skill should not require you to be aof a certain race.

But if you are making a belt of dwarven might, where the race is essential to the crafting, then I would require the character with the feat to be of the correct race.

I think that;s what you are trying to get answered, if not. My bad and I'll type up something about skinning elves.

I want a bump.

I am moving towards being lenient in regards to something like a ring of climbing or an elven cloak. If the item grants something like a skill bonus in which the creator has the potential to acquire on their own, within their existing class(es), than I might let it go.

If it's something like grants Maximize feat 3/day or +4 Monk levels, than I'm gonna be a stickler and say "no".

I'd really like to hear some more intelligent, worthwhile input.

Thanks in advance to all partipants.

3rd bump's the charm. It might just be an unimportant question/problem. It might be a hard one to answer. However the dice are rolled, this'll be the last time I bump it up to the top.

If it's jut a skill bonus, I'd require by-the-book requirements, or ranks equal to 1/2 the bonus - 5 ranks for +10, 10 ranks for +20, etc.
