Prestige Classes that are "super" versions of normal classes

It is actually better for the psion to 'not' take levels in uncarnate then it is to take them from a power and usefulness perspective (great flavor though).. so I am confused about what you are using as a guideline ;)

Note that I am not talking about 'lacking some power of the original' I mean 'can do the same thing, only better, plus everything else better by not taking it'.

But for sorc any prc that gives full progression + perks would make for a 'super sorc'. Thinking along those lines, does wild mage give up any caster levels?

Psion Uncarnate

hi Scion,

i'm really sorry, you're right. i thought it had full psionics progression.

er i guess that means that the psion is added to the list of classes that i'm looking for a prestige class for.

thanks for the input so far, everyone!

I would second that the uncarnate is not the best choice for psions- you loose manifester levels for pete's sake.

The horizonwalker also suffers in comparison with a ranger.

The Illilad Slayer (XPH) is definatly a suped up version of the psi warrior - you lose 1 manifester level for full BAB and special abilities, no change in HD or skills.

The Sublime Cord (Carc) is the super bard - making them masters of enchantment, (ottos dance now avalible at 15th level.)

Why are you doing this? just for fun or are you trying to create a Tier of powerful organizations, carrying social standing and actual prestige? If so you would have to go with a mounted knight for the fighter. I ran a game like that for a while. The actual abilites of the class were secondary to the fact that the organization had accepted you. The organizations also had enough flexibility to admit those that did not meet the mechanical requirements, although they still had to meet or exceeded the intened power level. If you were accepted this way you got no mechanical benefits, only the social ones.

Umm, actually, the sublime chord still gets otto's as a 6th level spell (which they could have gotten without the PrC). It specifically says in the description for choosing higher level spells, if there is a bard listing and a sor/wiz listing with different levels, use the bard version. And otto's isn't subject to SR or saves, so what does spell or caster level matter?

As far as the Op's question goes, I don't want to do any repeats, so how about Monk: Reaping Mauler (CW)? RM certainly "out-monk"s the monk in grappling.

Goody-Goody Edition (BOED)

Sorceror - Exalted Arcanist
Druid - Lion of Talisid
Paladin (Unmounted) - Fist of Raziel
Barbarian - Champion of Gwynhrwyf (Frenzied Berzerker is still stronger though not PC material)

There are several prestige classes that are "super" or "souped up" versions of normal classes. Of course it can be argued that they are not really "super" versions of normal classes since they don't give all the abilities of the originating class, but that's not what I'm trying to debate here. I've listed what (I think) are the prestige classes and their linked classes.

Archmage - Wizard
Assassin/Shadowdancer - Rogue
Weapon Master (Complete Warrior) - Fighter
Frenzied Berserker (Complete Warrior) - Barbarian
Horizon Walker - Ranger
Hierophant - Cleric
Psion Uncarnate (XPH) - Psion
Virtuoso (Complete Adenturer) - Bard

In the spirit of finding these "super normal classes" prestige classes, are there any other prestige classes that can fulfill the niches of the "super normal class" for the remaining classes? The remaining classes (including the XPH) are druid, monk, paladin, soulknife, psychic warrior, wilder, and sorcerer.

I'm more interested in finding if there are any classes that fulfill the role of "super wilder", "super sorcerer", and a "super" spontaneous divine caster (Dragonlance's Mystic) prestige class, because these are the classes that (I think) benefit the most from their casting/manifesting powers and they suffer from the "sorcerer should take any prestige class that gives spellcasting progression because that's the crux of their abilities" syndrome.

Also, if possible I'd like to know the source of the prestige class as well, if possible.

Thanks!

wow man, I'm amazed you missed the Super Cleric: Radiant Servant of Pelor.

I disagree. My friend ran a frenzied berzerker in a campaign I DM'd recently. When DM'ing I often accounted for fighters by tossing in an extra hand-to-hand combattant or two. That frenzied berzerker char required squads.... Frenzy is just another kind of rage, but still essetially the same thing, and IMHO accents the barb's abilities nicely. A really good choice for PC class,in my book.
