Jim Ward, a nice fellow? Sangrolu/Psion said on FFE's message boards...

So he's now making an incredible book of spells- and we should buy it, because they're "way cool" (they really treat their reviewers well) and "unusually ethical"- yes, it is unusual for a company to ignore the SRD for so long. And it is obvious that FFE is great- since some publishers are "green with envy".

And of course, we all know WotC's books are more valued than the d20 companies' ones, but THAT'S GOING TO CHANGE! With the wonderful DEADLY CREATURES TOME!

I myself can't wait for that product!

I think Jim Ward was trying to be sarcastic. Another over-reaction, allright. But I can see how he (mis-)interpreted Sangrolu/Psion's post, which he might have thought of being sarcastic too (or is it?).

Egads people.

Lighten up.

They made a mistake, took some bruises, made amends, and are trying to move forward.

Its called forgiveness, not that they even need it from us. This is between them and WOTC.

It isn't really any of our business.

I hope they are back on their feet trying to make better compliant products because of this.

I understand where you're coming from, but most of the reaction is to what Ward has posted publicly, both in his 900 Words article and on his message boards. In essence, he's inviting public discussion and feedback, for better or worse, with such postings. Of course, I'm sure a lot of discussion would have been generated had FFE decided to simply trash the books that violated the d20 license and not say anything about it; stuff like that always gets out somehow. To be honest, I'm a bit surprised that the issue hasn't generated any more controversy than it has.

Jim Ward apparently had this to say:
>>>
Not liking that attitude we could have ignored them, but we decided that we could make a wonderful product without their "green with envy" spells.
>>>

The insinuation that a class-act company like Green Ronin is in some way envious of an arrogant, cavalier association of grumpy "fast-moving"* has-beens is absolutely ludicrous.

To me, this whole discussion puts a lot of the bad decisions of second edition into bright perspective.

* See, I didn't name names, either. Aren't I professional!

Wow, I really missed that "green with envy" remark, maybe because I didn't get it - but together with "I won't mention names, even the colorful ones" tells me that's exactly what this "Drawmij-backwards-guy"* meant so say.

Guess that illustrates pretty well that I am generally pretty naive...

* I bet nobody thought I could be a professional too ;)
