Question about damage

Asmo

First Post
Noob-question again: a player in my group has a +1 composite longbow +4. PC has 18 str, 4 lvl half orc ranger.
When using Rapid Shot, du you add +5 to both arrows, or just a flat +5 to both arrows? We can´t find the answer.

I don't understand your question since you seem to be asking the same thing.

Damage for this bow will be 1d8+5 each time you hit with an arrow. It doesn't matter if Rapid shot or any other feat is involved unless it says it adds a penality to your damage.

Rapid Shot just gives you one more attack at a penalty of -2 to hit, much like 2 weapon fighting (although there you do only get half the STR bonus on that one extra attack).

If you think that's gross, look to the Rogue who fights with two weapons - one extra attack is another x6d Sneak Attack bonus!

Are we not answering the question you are trying to ask?

The feat allows the character, as a full round action (note that he cannot move AND use Rapid Shot. nor can he take any other move-equivalent action) to make one extra attack (at full BAB) at the cost of a -2 penalty to hit on all arrows fired. At L4, with no iterative attacks, that's two arrows instead of one.

Each arrow gets its regular damage, so 1d8 + 5.

Adding the bonus only once to two (or more) arrows combined wouldn't seem fair to me - multiple melee attacks get the full magic bonus and at least half the STR bonus. It would also be confusing - what happens if only one arrow hits, or if he fires arrows at two different opponents?

Is there some third alternative we are overlooking, Asmo?

No, I was unclear: we had a question about weapon damage, not Rapid Shot.
It´s answered, so we´re happy.
