Question about Sword & Fist

Anubis

First Post
On page 60 of S&F, there is a table that gives the average damage and mean damage of Tordek using various weapons.

I know that the mean number is the # of hits multiplied by the average damage.

My question is: How did they calculate the average damage?

Unfortunately, it does not tell how it came up with the numbers it did, it only tells the equipment and the ramifications of those numbers. I need to know the formula for finding the average damage itself.

Average damage is the average of the damage dice plus any modifiers plus the chance to crit threat times the chance to confirm the hit times the avergae additional damage of a critical.

That's what I thought it was, but when I calculated it, I didn't get the same answer as the book.

Also, the book doesn't factor in the chance to confirm a crit in the average damage. (If it did, the average damage would be different against the three different armor classes.)

It lists the average damage of the Dwarven Waraxe +2 for Tordek at 15.95 against AC 20, 26, AND 32.

If anybody has S&F, could you please demonstrate how they arrived at the numbers on table 4-2 for damage?

I'll see what I can do tonight.

If you want, you can use the damage calculator on my site to see if it gets the same numbers.

I checked out the Damage Calculator, and it does not match the S&F table. Heck, the Damage Calculator gives different results for different AC, while the S&F gives the same average damage.

It appears that S&F is taking the average overall damage of the weapon, not factoring in hits until later.

Obviously, only people with S&F can figure this one out. It's table 4-2 on page 60.

BUMP

Just wanna keep the topic going until the formula is explained. Preferably with an example of how the numbers in S&F were found.
