I've gamed in groups that were quite large and have been the only non-white in sight. I've met a handful of other African American gamers, but none of them stayed with the group for very long. This had, I think, more to do with the nature of the gaming envrironment rather than ethnicity; we played in a store where basically anyone who wanted too could play. There was often a very large group and many people came and went.

The store didn't happen to be in Chicago, did it? This sounds EXACTLY like our group, when we first started playing together. At any point we would have something like 13 or 14 people around the gaming table, but the group had like 20 regular or semi-regular players altogether.

I'm just terrified someone could look at me and call me a racist, which wouldn't be true, but I've got no way to prove it because my small circle of friends are largely just like me.

What's there to prove? If someone came into my house, for example, and seriously called me a racist, I'd show him the door, not try to demonstrate what a diverse and sensitive fellow I am.

Reminds me of an experience I had in the Army while at Fort Bragg. A soldier in the unit accused me of being racist based on his perception that I didn't like him coupled with the fact that he is African-American. I explained that the reason I don't like has nothing to do with color of skin and everything to do with him being a jack-ass. The subject never came up again.

I'm just paranoid about impossible things like that... or what I'd do if I accidentally travelled back in time to the Middle Ages with no technological support.

That, and you wouldn't even be able to understand what anyone was saying or read anyone's writing given how much language changes in the course 700 or so years. :D

2050 s/LaSH - most trend analysis says by 2050 European in NZ will be the minority (and Maori the majority by a slim margin). Possibly as soon as 2020 depending on how the immigration policies pan out - you white folk just don't breed fast enough:D...

True dat. Although I'm Catholic, so according to stereotype I should be spawning hundreds of little Catholics to unleash upon the world. But true to gamer stereotype, that's not gonna happen to me any time soon, so I'll have to settle for becoming a gerontocrat instead.

(Gerontocracy - rule by the old. Something the non-breeding white folks of the world are going to be experiencing a lot by the end of the century, as their childen find themselves outnumbered by white-hairs.)

See? A stupid, groundless fear on my part. Toldja it was paranoid... well, not clinically paranoid, just in principle. Um.

Well my group is rather diverse in many ways, with its own fair share of gamer girls and gay gamers. Though in the ethnic department we're rather homogenous.

Or maybe not. Does Canadian count as a minority? ;)

According to my weight projections of my sister-in-law (from Toronto) she should count as a majority in votes involving less than 10 people by the year 2005. As it is, her mouth more than makes up for any failings of her actual presence.

This was bile from Florida, thank you, drive through...
