You can't then say that a pixie should have less of an LA because they are really only good at stealth and can't be any of the martial classes.
Here is what the elf gets that the human doesn't (note I am not comparing them to dwarves because I personally think the dwarves are borderline LA+1 if you compared all the standard races together).
• Immunity to magic sleep effects, and a +2 racial saving throw bonus against enchantment spells or effects.
Equivalent to a feat. Very comparable to either Iron Will, or the feat from FR that gives +4 to poison saves.
• Low-Light Vision: An elf can see twice as far as a human in starlight, moonlight, torchlight, and similar conditions of poor illumination. She retains the ability to distinguish color and detail under these conditions.
Equivalent to a feat.
• Weapon Proficiency: Elves receive the Martial Weapon Proficiency feats for the longsword, rapier, longbow (including composite longbow), and shortbow (including composite shortbow) as bonus feats.
Taken as a whole, equivalent to a feat or not depending on class.
• +2 racial bonus on Listen, Search, and Spot checks. An elf who merely passes within 5 feet of a secret or concealed door is entitled to a Search check to notice it as if she were actively looking for it.
Equivalent to two feats. One a standard +2/+2 feat, the other the extra +2 and auto notice ability
• Automatic Languages: Common and Elven.
Equivalent to 2 free skill points.
So this works out to 4-5 feats worth of abilities, 2 skill points, and a wierd 4 hour sleep pattern. This compared to the humans 1 feat + 4skill points + better multiclassing.
Once again, i'm not saying the elf SHOULD be LA+1, but I AM saying they get an awful lot of things compared to the other races.
