Yeah, more for kids than adults, but I really liked it. And, judging from the reactions of the kids in the theatre, kids
Really like it. There are more than a few jokes in there for adults also. I always think Ben Stiller is funny, but he's accompanied by even more fellow commedic heavy weights in this one.
Of course there's the alums from the first movie: Robin Williams (but his role in this one is significantly less than the first), Owen Wilson, Ricky Gervais, and Steve Coogan. But along with them there's Christopher Guest as Ivan the Terrible (SNL,
This is Spinal Tap, and of course,
The Princess Bride), Bill Hader (SNL) as General George Custer, and of course the always funny Hank Azaria (
The Simpsons) as the antagonist (and a few extra voices here and there). Hank Azaria came up with a voice for the bad guy that's kind of a petulent but comedic version of Jeremy Irons. The man is a genius with voices! The funniest part is the argument between he and Ben Stiller about "
crossing the line". Kids and adults alike were rolling in laughter in the theatre. For my money, Hank Azaria ruled this movie.
I also liked seeing Clint Howard doing a cameo/reprisal of his launch tech role in "
From the Earth to the Moon" during the Air and Space Museum "Launch" scene.
I gave it a 4 (although kids may think it's a 5). Definitely a worthy successor to the first movie. It certainly left me hoping there will be a third installment, although I have no idea where they could possibly take the premise from here. But here's to hoping.
