Ravenloft, the Movie

Vampire movies always seem to carry their weight.

Would a Ravenloft movie make a good D&D/vampire crossover film?
Horror movies do great. You’d be at cross purposes with horror and D&D. Just like in the recent setting and module.

In the last year and into the next we will have Sinners, Dracula, and Nosferatu. Or, better yet, here’s a list of newer vampire movies.

What would a Strahd movie bring to the table besides licensing fees, Hasbro meddling, and confused audience expectations? Basically anything you could do with Strahd you can do without those obstacles.

That gets you the tiny D&D audience, and probably makes the mainstream audience think “huh, that’s weird, why did they change Van Helsing into a hobbit?” — I just don’t see a reason to do it from the Hollywood POV. It would come across like those gimmicky comedy rip-off horror films to anybody not familiar with D&D.

There’s a reason D&D copied Dracula.
As it's a pocket dimension I suppose they could take a leaf out of the '70s book of SciFi; "The Fantastic Journey." Have modern day characters, as audience POV, then mix in other times and fantasy.

I say tv series would be better and unlike Dracula and some previous posters it hasn’t been done before

First
1 You do a predator cartoon setup where your heroes are transported in from various locations and tie it into the other d&d series. 2 dwarven heroes are traveling the underdark and bam one goes missing as she’s transported to Bravia while the other carries on and is part of your other tv show. The other heroes are also transported in .
2 unlike Dracula with his wolves and mistresses you have other creatures like a powerful witch/gargoyles etc etc
3 the actual strahd book practically begs to be a script
4 ireena breaks the mold of the helpless heroine
5 instead of van helsing getting the lair by daylight etc etc it’s items needed and an actual battle with sorcery and swords
Instead of a love story you have the acts of a selfish person (prelude) and then a horror action movie

Honestly I would do ravenloft without Strahd, which might sound like blasphemy to some....but I think the creative juice is in the stories you can tell within the cool world structure of Ravenloft...and you avoid it just being some same old vampire movie.

Lots of other realms and dark lords in Ravenloft you could explore.
