If he's in charge, and he's 'old school' then why does the game not seem to satisfy people who are 'old school' and want something different from what 5e provides? Why is the direction pulling away from what 'old school' would seem to imply?

"I played back then!" is meaningless if the product continues to move in a direction away from whatever 'back then' implies.
This is false. There are plenty of old school type players like me. And his message to us is appreciated.

I'm sorry, but I have to call out my fellow old school gamers. Not directed at anyone particular in this thread, but to the general response I'm seeing a lot since that freaking clown came out.

For DECADES we told other fans when their edition was ended, "No one took your books, you can keep playing however you want. Now you know how we felt when 3e came out, or when 4e came out. You're not special, now you're like every other fan of a discontinued edition "

We made those arguments for 20 freaking years when wizards bought DnD.

So for these same gamers to now get up in arms because in 2021 you don't feel WoTC is catering to you, it has to be one of the biggest examples of cognitive dissonance I've seen in a while. You've been using those arguments to shut down other gamers for years, so you don't get to suddenly complain that wizards isn't listening to you because it's been the whole basis of your previous arguments; that you're used to not being listened to so others now in the same boat need to sit down and stop complaining.

End rant.

You are overwhelmingly positive, at least around here, and thats great, but I would have wonder.

Did you need this message? Where you wondering if Wizards cares about players like you?

But he was more than a player. I mean I think his first TSR publication is an adventure right along side of Steve Perrin and Jennell Jaquays!
To be clear, it wasn't that those three individuals all collaborated on an adventure together, but that they all had separate adventures that appear in the anthology product I13 Adventure Pack I (affiliate link).

In my case I’m not wondering because it’s clear they do! I’ve played since Holmes Basic and find 5e the best iteration of D&D yet, plus there have been plenty of adventures hardening back to classics. So this old timer is placated as hell!

Actually yes. With all the talk about the new set and and the monster changes adopting some 4e style stat blocks and away from spell lists, I was getting kind of worried. Not anything terrible, I do have my current books.

But I do run a lot of AL and convention play and I'd rather use an older style rule set. But that post and.... other things.... goes a long way towards letting me know WotC designers and staff know and care about supporting a broad set of play styles.

Note I also realize "Older style ruleset" is a rather subjective tag on a spectrum.
