Real Professions anyone? or What did you do when you grew up?

I'm finishing up my Master's in Opera Performance, and debating whether or not to go on for the Doctorate. The other option is to teach music in the schools and audition, audition, audition. . . Not much $$$, but I wouldn't/couldn't do anything else!

I'm a Network Engineer, and now Manager of the Engineering Department at a statewide ISP. I'm also the Operational and Engineering manager for a Managed Data Center(Colocation Facility)

Gotta love 245Mb/s bandwidth capacity at my fingertips. Now I need the software upgrades, to increase the prioritization of traffic to my desktop, how am I gonna work that into my budget.

I'm a production manager for a small non-profit that helps find adoptive homes for special needs children. I do web work, page layout, and just about anything else that needs doing.

I'm an Air Force Major, in the ICBM career field - specifically, dealing with the enable and launch codes and related equipment.

Heh, wow it's hard to follow that one up but I work in software localization (translation) back and forth between Japanese and English. I do some gaming related work -- English translations of console RPGs developed in Japan.

I am an Air Force Pilot.

Became my dream when I was 8 and first rode in an airplane.

What DO I Do?

Anyone remember the job title Chandler Bing used to have on the American TV show Friends? Something along the lines of Data Extraction and Reconfiguration. Well, I recently realized that it's an apt description of what I do since the reorg last October. It suits me well and I am quite enjoying it.

I sell my skills and insight. Notably, in consulting capacity:

- Co-Developed an integral piece of Inkjet Technology
- Wrote the draft of the Digital Color Printing Bible
- Co-Designed the Technology program for the Charter School of Science and Technology

Occasionally, I hire on for a few weeks or months of Tech Support, or to various test labs developing Printer or Photocopier technology.

I put "Consulting Technologist" on my business card.

Oh, I used to do that in Phoenix, though it was in the other direction.
