Recommend me a RPG for reading.

I found the Symbaroum books to be great read. It's a great setting and the art is gorgeous.

I downloaded the quickstart. this does look great.

I really like Bakers' writing style and I'm a fangirl, so, obviously I'll recommend Apocalypse World.

I'll also recommend Veins of the Earth, that's probably the best piece of RPG writing I've ever read. Also doubles as the most beatiful artbook I have, but that's secondary.

My go to recommendation:

Spire: The City Must Fall

Great game, great setting, evocative writing, jam-packed with ideas on every page.

Available in hardcover with pdf. Self-contained, though there have been a couple of supplements.

Heart: The City Beneath is also a great read—smart, slightly surrealist deconstruction of dungeon-delving—though arguably better after you've at least skimmed Spire, since the settings are shared/linked.

ETA: Nuts. Looks like the regular hardcover is out of stock, so it's either the PDF or the pricier special edition hardcover (which I have, and it's lovely, but still).

Steve Jackson Games: In Nomine

Hands down, a fantastic game to sit and read, especially if you never intend to play it. I've read that book cover to cover a number of times and still have no concept of how you'd actually construct and run a campaign in that universe. But it's a fantastic read.

I'd read Dragon Age with no intention of playing it. Possibly because I have little intention of playing the CRPG...

I'd suggest you check out the World of Aetaltis: Adventurer's Guide! It's a book written "in character" as if by and for prospective adventurers in the World of Aetaltis. Compiled by the College of New Erinor, it includes both the official information and comments in the margins from other adventurers and experts, voicing their own opinions on the content.
