[Recruiting Fresh Again!] The Old School: 1e AD&D

Scott,

Sounds like an intriguing proposition. How bout we leave it at 'There was some sort of rift created between our two families, and we'd both sort of like to see that healed. We've both only heard our families side of the story, which places the others at fault. Back in the good old days when we were kids (probably around 12 for me) we use to visited each other and were pretty good friends.'

Optional:
We'd both sent letters to each other congradulating each other on recent "graduations" and I informed you that I would be traveling to the Old School, for buisness, and then for adventure.
This is the first time we've seen each other face to face in years. There could be traces of conflict between us of course.

Really it's all optional, If the basics above are good with you cousin, lets start developing it in game. I'm OK, having most of the details decided spontaneously in game we'll play of each other. And I'm fine with the DM toying with things too.

(I'm considering having my father die fairly young, possibly in combat, leaving me to be raised mostly by Uncle Thomas)

I like this cousins returning together line of options. in Industry gothica's those left behind i am playing a paladin of freedom who is the brother of a scorceress, and you never know what that other character may throw at me.

so: tow cousins caught in the middle of a intra family fued, trying to heal the old wounds, but having their own opinions of the matter themselves. do i have it right?

That's right. Works perfectly for me! And we can both surprise each other with specific details!

See you soon cousin.

(In the game thread I have not noticed you yet, as I'm focused on Dulon Thrax. Feel free to say something in private to Hulan, one of the others, or greet me. I'll say hi soon enough.)

Works for me.

Excellent, its always more fun that way!

Uh, Scott have you given your character a name yet? If you have I can't find it. :-S You haven't reposted your character in the plots and places thread at any rate.
By the way I'm 5'7'' and 182 so were not that far off on relative weight. (Or should I say pure muscle! Well lets go with 'well-built;)') Family resemblance?

Yes this is my post full of more then necessary smilies :p An seeing as I'm a paladin

InVinoVeritas, I don't mean to rush you:uhoh:, but it be nice to get things rolling, I'm eager to Kill something and take it's stuff!:D That's what it's all about!

(OK I admit I love roleplaying too:p. And as a paladin my goal isn't to kill things and take there stuff :.-( . . .)

Thanks. I realize I am just a bit overeager:blush:. Just glad that no ones gone 'missing'.

(Being a university student I also make my own time.)

Austin Haarelsen. I think you posted something about my mother being the commen relative, so that will allow for the different last name. 5'9 207 lb 94.09 Kg for those on metric system. I figure he has been stuck on more on administrative duties and is just ichin' to get back ooout to the great outdoors and woop up on bandit arse! ... oops, forgot. Lawful good does not allow vindettas really ... I Guess i better move him to the roges gallery soon.

Edit: if you look at th sig block below, you can see my character sheets. V

Thanks for the info. So . . . Austin and Amirad I like it. Hmmmm as for a last name I haven't made one yet. (BUt yes I think we have a concensus that your mother is the common relative).
I'm not sure what kind of naming conventions I want to go with. I suppose we should sortof decide together as we are from the same society/kingdom.
Here's the last name possibilities that occured to me:

1. Take the name of where your from eg. Luke of London, Billy von York,
2. Take the name of your father eg. George son of Robert, Alfred Robertson, or perhaps Austin Harrelsen?
3. The more common (nowadays) of just keeping the last name that your father had. This would allow for the more easy reference to House _______ (House Harrelsen) that seems coomon for merchant houses.
4. Taking the last name of the House/clan/extended family that you marry into. This also allows for even easier reference to House _______ (House Harrelsen) that seems coomon for merchant houses.

I like number four. I also like the idea of your father marrying into the House (probably to the eldest daughter.) And then some strife occurrs splitting the merchant House into two seperate 'new' merchant houses.

So we could both have an old last name in common (hmmm maybe something like Valderben?) eg. the name of the old merchant house before the split.
And a new last name for the 'new' merchant houses Harrelsen for you and hmmm maybe Kalveten for me.

I like them as middle level struggling traders not amazingly wealthy merchant princes (or even rich ones). The level where sometimes they still often travel with their wares.

How bout some "Traditional family roles"
First son : Takes care of family business (uncle Thomas)
2nd son: Joins some kind of military (my father hmm Radigos)
3rd son: joins the priesthood (is there another uncle?)

We can change the order based on where you view your character 'compared' to his siblings. Fact switching 2 and 3 might work better for me.
I see my character as originally training for priesthood, then when my father died taking over his "Military" role in the larger family. Though that can be played with.

Anyway I guess that's a lot. Thoughts? I can restate it in more concrete terms this was a little stream of conciousness . . . Maybe we shouldn't develop it to much more, never know when one of our the character might die . . . (Of course then we could bring in relatives:))
