[sblock=Story]The Academy of Sorcery in Enstad, capital city of the Faerie Kingdom of Celene, takes its oaths of membership very seriously indeed. The mages of the Academy must pay regular dues, swear loyalty to the Council of Magisters, and may never sell the Academy's secrets to the enemies of the Elven people. When a wizard transgresses--and they do transgress, headstrong and arrogant as wizards often are--the Academy turns to its Blackblades to send a strong message.
Lithee'an Sifrandan, Son of the Waning Moon, was once counted among the most promising of the Academy's Blackblades. Trained in infiltration, subterfuge, and the arcane arts, Lithee'an snuck into the towers, laboratories and libraries of many of Celene's worst renegade mages. But a ruthless reputation has its faults: the Academy's popularity waned, and many decent mages of Celene felt its edicts had become unreasonable. And in order to depose the Council, they had to dispose of its attack dog. He awoke one night to a circle of hooded figures around his bed, and a dagger across his throat. A strong, swift hand sliced open his neck, and Lithee'an Sifrandan, Blackblade of the Council, died in his bed.
He awoke in a hut on the outskirts of Verbobonc many months later, a warm cloth on his forehead. Shifrusin Thel'yasin, daughter of the eldest mage on the Council, sat by his side. He had been resurrected, and though his time in the Shadow Realm had drained him considerably, he was the Council's only hope. Renegade mages, under the banner of the Yellow Eye, had deposed the Council. Now Lithee'an, Shifrusin, and her father Thidaris, were all that remained of the Council of Magisters, exhiled to Verbobonc to regroup and plot their return to Enstad. Taking up a simple long sword and a spellbook with just a few minor rotes, Lithee'an set off for Verbobonc, intent on gathering up riches and ancient artifacts of power in preparation for the Council's return.[/sblock]
