[Recruitment/Discussion] Serial Superheroes Game

Well here's an idea for the character:

At first had some meager abilities to control electricity, making him good with electronics. He gets a degree in electrical engineering, then joins the army. He volunteers for some research into mutant powers and finds himself becoming the subject of some experiments. After a series of events his abilities with the manipulation and now, creation, of electricity have increased dramatically. He becomes capable of a broad range of powers a) his physical and mental state has improved somewhat through control of his own bioelectric field (explanation for 48 point buy that all characters get) but his speed has increased considerably (lightning quick) b) he can generate vast amounts of electricity, c) still has good skills with electrical equipment and d) has some electromagnetic abilities, shorting out electric equipment with electromagnetic pulses and short range manipulation of metal objects.

Problems though that he has is a) a fear of open areas and crowds (kept in a confined space during research), b) he can't touch anything unless wearing special clothing otherwise stuff gets electrocuted (contributing to his fear of crowds), c) he's a superconductor and when electricity is present (ie. thunderstorm) more than often it'll go for him (getting struck by lightning and having electricity arc between him and the powerlines above his head are a contibuting factor to his fear of open areas), d) when struck by lightning and such he can become 'over-charged', resulting in convulsions and hefty amounts of electric charge, electromagnetic waves and radiation being given off until he's back to normal levels and e) he can become undercharged, when too much charge has been given off he can pass out or go into a coma until he's recharged himself, or in serious cases he drains charge from around him, draining bioelectricity from people around him and causing brownouts.

Well that seems to be it, tell me what you think. :)

Either way works, really... If it's an invisible but constantly real ally, it'll just have to start out limited in its powers and level up along with you -- I'm not expecting you to be really equivalent to 4th level d20 characters, it's more a starting point for Hit Dice than anything else. The only concern is getting all the characters reasonably balanced with each other... Enough that one person isn't solving every problem, and everyone gets a chance to show off.

Which way would you prefer it? We can work with that.

In a way I'm more into the "invisible and nonexistant creature that turns into a visible and extremely existant creature," because then our enemies will have at least some chances against my pet. Being killed by an invisible dragon that you didn't even know was there isn't just right. :D

That's no problem... Just let me know before you disappear, and how you want it handled. I can NPC you if need be, or your character can go off on his own if it's convenient (just give me some forewarning, and if you're going off on your own, build up to it, and let me know when you'll be back, so I can come up for a way for you to return... That sort of thing.)

Cool, I can do that! And I'll second GWolf's question:

Once I have a decent idea of what all your characters are -- which means now is a fine time to start :) Hopefully it should be an easy enough process (again, thinking rules-light), although it might take a bit of back and forth.

Festy: Sounds pretty swank... You've pretty much got all the bases covered, it seems. The over/undercharged aspect should make it relatively easy to put rules to him: I'm thinking something along the line of power points that regenerate (requiring an outside power source? like a wall socket or even just licking a battery... could be interesting :) )

psycho: Yeah, I have to say the invisible-then-manifests style makes my life a little easier, and means that the dragon won't have to be really crippled at low levels (yeah, making a dragon weak is totally against my nature.) Not sure what you'd like the rules for manifestation to be like -- times per day, checks with cumulative penalties, backlash? There are a lot of different ways to deal with the progression... Also, as guidelines for the dragon's stats itself, I'm thinking something about on par with the Adult Red from the MM... Definitely a destructive force (esp. in a modern game), but not godlike or anything.

GWolf: Yours looks like it should be fairly easy to work out -- were you wanting to do the Martial Artist aspect by multiclassing, or work it all together into one class? Either way works (I don't think I'm going to apply any multiclassing penalties, cause I want to leave you guys with plenty of options to develop your character.)

Oh, one more things: I need names for all these people, both superhero and real... Both can be the same if need be.

That should cover it for now. Hopefully some more people come around soon, although three is probably enough to get a game started.

Name: Fritz ???
Project Name: Lion Mk. 5
Superhero Name: The Ancient One

Breif Background

Fritz was a german solider during World War II, a great fighter pilot. His plane was the Bf-109G, the infamous single seat german fighter plane of the forties.

Before Fritz went missing he had 67 aerial victories to his name, and had escaped in an enemy plane after being shot down receiving the Wounds Badge, and German Cross, along with his Knights Cross with Oak Leaves for his many victories.

What made him a great pilot was his amazing Senses and G-Force Tolerance. HE would spot enemy planes are extreme ranges and had no problem lining up complicated deflection shots.

In 1944 however, he was shot down, nearly killed from the explosion, and was captured. British Intellgince knew of Frirz ??? and his exploits so they secretly took him and began testing on him.

The test were brutal, in the End the britsh had learned anything about him other then what was already known, but unknowingly they had increased his life span as well as toning his body with the rigours tests it was forced to endure.

In 1969 (He should've been 47, he looked 30, depsite his gray-white hair) Fritz was relased knowing little of his past save his name, and breif flash backs of his Prop Plane Past, and violent ones of his in the labs.

Fritz wandered, lost and hopless. He traveled the world, and one night was mouthing off in a resturant and got into a physical fight with the bus boy, who was a well built young man. The young man couldn't land a single blow on Fritz, and fritz kicked the kid through the window and ran, far far away.

Seeking to tame his newly discovered Physical Poweress, Fritz sought the master of Martial arts in 1970's "Bruce Lee", he happened to be teaching in washington at the time. After gathering enough money He enrolled in his classes and learned quite alot, including Bruce's deadly martial art "Jeet kune Do"/

After Bruce Lee's death, Fritz went searching England for the truth of his past to no avial, and has since then been sitting in China, praticing martial arts and the Marital way.

Our Classes Are Character Specific Right? I have a good idea for mine, based off Fast Hero. I can post it up later.

Name: Matt Reilly
Alias: The Dragon Keeper

Brought up by an abusive father and an indifferent stepmother, Matt was a very independent child already at an early age. Most of the time he kept to himself in his room, so that he could avoid his father's bursts of anger. During this time Matt made up his imaginary friend, Smoky the Dragon. Matt would talk to Smoky for hours, draw pictures of him (mind you, not very good ones) and pretend he was really there. This earned him the ridicule of his friends, who started calling him "The Dragon Keeper," and once his father found out about his son's imaginary friend from Matt's teacher, he gave his son a good trashing and told him to "stop that fairy bull:):):):) and grow up, 'cause dragons don't exist."

That was a bad mistake, because this dragon turned out to be very real.

All of Matt's anger and sorrow culminated in that one moment of his father's speech, and suddenly manifested in the form of a huge reddish-brown-scaled dragon, who didn't like to see his friend beaten up. The dragon burnt down the house, killing Matt's father and stepmother, but saved Matt from the burning ruins, unscratched. When the fire department arrived they found a little kid staring at the burning house with a tear in his eye.

Matt was 6 years old when he lost his home. He was then put into a nursing home, where he spent the rest of his days, all the way until his late adolescence. While there he spent quite a lot of time with Smoky, of course when no-one was looking, and learnt how to manifest him even when not angry or sad. Now 19 years old, Matt has finished his studies and is now a freelance author who writes fantasy literature. Going for him in his career is the fact that he is probably the only author in the world who can claim to have seen a real dragon. ;)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
For his class, I was thinking that the Smart Hero would be a good starting point, and maybe some abilities based around the Astral Constructor to increase Smoky's powers. The idea is that as Matt's mental capacity increases, his imagination becomes even more vivid, and he can "dream up" greater abilities for Smoky.

Okay, now I've got a few ideas for Smoky: Smoky should have the Emphatic Link ability of a familiar, because Smoky is really in direct contact with Matt's psyche. (if Matt gets angry, Smoky gets angry; if Matt gets sad, Smoky gets sad) As for other abilities, Smoky should be Large at least, (so's he can serve as a mount Matt) have claws and teeth (tail slap, wing buffet and other dragon attacks can wait) and be able to breath fire. As for other abilities, some natural armor, a high strength and constitution, and maybe fire resistance would fit him fine...
Now I've gotta wrap this all up in a Level 4 character class. :)

Guilt Puppy,

Okay, I used the Smart Hero as a premise for my Dragon Keeper class and the Green Dragon from the MM as a premise for the dragon itself, just see if it's okay, and make all the changes you like straight into the file and post it again, edited.
