Yes, it’s meant to be a significant problem for the party. You could tone all the DCs down if you want it to be less dangerous. Or make it easier to cure, I guess.

No, I wrote my own homebrew mechanic to work the way I wanted it to, and I thought I’d share it for anyone who might be interested. If you don’t like it that’s fine, you’re welcome to use this Nightfell product, or your own homebrew, or the RAW lycanthropy rules, or whatever you want.

People seem very concerned about the DCs, that’s good feedback, I could tone them all down by 5. I’m just concerned that if I do the new moon saves will be gestural at best.

Spelling mistake aside, I was actually referring to all the NPC characters in the game world who posess wildshape or its eqivalent, which I do not believe is contagious.
My hypothetical question is: how do the groups of non-contagious shapechangers relate to contagious (and out-of-control) ones. (Plot hook material?)
Any thought of importing the 3.x Control Shapechange feat? (It was a proficiency in Night Howlers IIRC.)
I like that you have provided a non-magical way to evade the curse, it's a nice touch, and brings skill use in.

Oh, I see. Good question! Given the intentional parallels between the forced transformation and possession by extraplanar entities, I would think a druid, for example, would view a lycanthrope as a person possessed by an animal spirit. They might be inclined to seek a way to appease, calm, or banish the spirit as a method of alleviating the turmoil both the humanoid and the spirit must both be in. That’s a potential plot direction I would be happy to have eventually lead to a viable cure. On the other hand, something like a polymorph-focused wizard might view the lycanthrope as some sort of arcane anomaly, maybe a strange form of Sorcerer struggling to control their magic. Oh, I’m not aware of that Feat. What does it do?
Thanks! Yeah, I quite like the idea of a cursed character constantly adjusting their sleep schedule trying to keep pace with the moonrise/moonset, trying to sleep an hour later each night/day so they’re never at risk of shapeshifting, but finding that difficult to achieve in a world without alarm clocks. Maybe pulling some all-nighters during the full moon and using the extra time to brew some potions to alleviate the risk somewhat next month.
