Revision Spotlight on Gnomes

Retroactivly changing the favored class of existing characters would be not only wrong, but mean in my oppinion.

A DM that does that should be told in no uncertain terms where to go.

To say Bards are singers and performers first and foremost, is like saying Rogues are thieves and assassins first and foremost. A very narrowminded view of a class.

Right. And that point about the class skills is right too. If you want a non evocation but illusion dude with lotsa skills for mucho stuff, the bard (and prolly the 3.5 bard in particular) is your class.

I just checked the SRD and could not find an entry for "Gnome Hooked Hammer" under the Equipment_Weapons section. Does anyone know if the Gnome Hooked Hammer was a Medium or Large weapon? I kind of remember it being Large, which means that a Gnome would not be able to use it, which would make it foolish to be a Favored weapon. But maybe I am remembering inccorectly and it was in fact a Medium weapon.

Yet another change that violates the promise of backwards compatibility. As already mentioned, a gnome that multiclasses Illusionist will most likely be facing a 20% xp penalty in the new edition.

From what I've seen, just about every character class is going to have a few changes. Many of them are going to be substantial, to the point where conversion is going to take some thought.

It is going to be interesting comparing the changes in the two versions of the SRD.

Raise your hand if you've actually played a gnome bard. Mm-hmm... thought so. Well I have. I know the shame, the ineffectiveness, and the ridicule. O, the unending ridicule.

And now, bard is the gnome's favored class. It's almost more irony than I can bear.

Sweet, sweet vindication...

Well, firstly i love the idea that Gnomes favorite class is bard, and i like what they've done with the class, though possibly they should have received more 'Tinkering' bonuses, as Gnomes are inventive and tinkerers and shouldn't be required to take prestige classes to gain such abilities...*confuse look*

Anywayz, the fact remains that from all accounts the Bard class will be improved, from increasing skill points *up to 6 per level* to adding new songs, and different abilities, Not to mention something rumoured *though i'km not sure whether it's true* the fact that they will suffer no Arcane Spell Failure in Light Armour...

Gnome Bard, with a +1 mithril chain shirt, masterwork lute (small) a +2 short sword, and two +1 daggers (throwing)...a'right here i come!

I think it's safe to say that Wizards of the Coast has said bollocks to backwards compatibility.

d8 hit die for rangers, gnome's favored class is bard, spells changing levels, monster CR's changing, monster skill points have to be redone, Weapon Finesse, etc.

They should just call it the fourth edition rules.

You can bet that many people don't give a **** about how they call their fourth edition ;)

Still, I like the changes. Assuming the bard gets a few more useful spells on his list.
