D&D 5E Rogue (11) Multiclass options

I probably would have rather gone 5-8 levels or Ranger instead of Fighter, but 5-8 levels of Fighter would still be great.

I'm actually playing a Battle Master Archer Fighter at level 6 right now and I think I'll jump over to Rogue eventually for a lot of levels. Will probably end up at least going to lvl 11 in Fighter though.

But since the revised Ranger, I think an archer Ranger/Rogue would synergize better.

You could even consider Champion for some extra deadly crits

Thanks again for your comments!

Just to avoid misunderstandings. I am currently level 12:

Race: Human: Variant
Classes: Rogue(11)/Fighter(1)
Ability Scores: ST 8 | DEX 20 | CON 14 | WIS 12 | INT 12 | CHA 13
Feats: Crossbow Expert, Sharpshooter
Archetype: Arcane Trickster

Spells:
- Cantrips: Mage Hand, Prestidigitation, Minor Illusion, Message
- Level 1: Find Familiar, Silent Image, Disguise Self
- Level 2: Suggestion, Invisibility, Mirror Image, Darkvision

Consideration:

Rogue 12: Gives an ASI. No extra damage. Nothing else. Is it worth it?

Rogue 13: This would offer 3rd level spells + Versatile Trickster + 1D6 SA damage. To be honest, I don't really have need for Versatile Trickster, because I already spend my Bonus Action for an extra attack (Crossbow Expert).

Warlock: I like Warlocks, but I think it's a bit too much to dip into this one. Rogue/Fighter/Warlock - omg. ;-)

Fighter: I already spend 1 level into this class, so I think it's just resolutely to go for this, Otherwise it would be a "lost level", wouldn't it?

Bard: This is still an option I like, because I found out that I like spellcasting more than when I started the rogue. But - as mentioned - it somehow feels like I wasted a level for Figher (1). What do you think?

Order: What order would you go for? First concentrate on either Figher/Bard or go for Rogue 12/13? To be honest, I don't see much use for the ASI. Ability +2 is nice, but it means waiting for Extra Attack (Fighter)/Spells (Bard) one level longer.

What do you think?

Thanks in advance!

Well, Fighter 1 gave you a +2 to your crowwbow attacks, it's pretty hard to consider that a waste. That being said, every level from Fighter 2 to 5 gives you something awesome, with the Extra Attack as a reachable goal for level 16. That would be my choice.

This is with sneak 6d6 sneak attack, archery style +2, 20dex all taken into account for a fighter5 rogue11 vs a rogue 11 fighter 1 bard 4.

The fighter variant does get action surge and superiority dice (assuming battleMaster).

I didn't factor in sharpshooter because no one ever mentioned having it as a feat. If the -5/+10 part of it is used than that may make a bit of a difference.

Also putting more levels into rogue vs 4 more into fighter yields almost identical damage to the rogue 11/fighter 5 without -5/+10 from sharpshooter.

Why not go -> rogue (11) fighter 6-> ranger (3).

Fighter 6 will reward you with a fighting style, second wind, action surge, battlemaster dice, 2 ASI, and extra attack. That's pretty ice, but the next three levels don't give you much.

The UA variant ranger 3 gives you a bunch of utility, increases your spellcasting ability (not by much, but every level counts), grants you some decent spells known (hunter's mark), favored enemy (you probably know what you'll be fighting for the rest of the camping by then), and colossus slayer (always helpful).

Thanks for your calculation! Is it possible to take Sharpshooter into account as well? Unfortunately, I am very bad in math, so I can't do it myself. But it would be very interesting to know.

I already have the +2 Ranged Fighting Style from Figher 1. At the moment, I am using my Bonus Action to shoot with -5/+10, always considering the GWM Reference Table.

Vut I absolutely have no idea, how big the differences between rogue and fighter levels really are:

  1. +Rogue Levels = more Sneak Attack damage (no Extra Attack)
  2. +Fighter Levels = Extra Attack / Superior Dice (no extra SA dmg)
  3. +Bard levels = no extra SA damage, no Extra Attack (because Extra Attack would be so late in the game at level 18 that I wouldn't take it into account)
I don't know how much effort it takes to do such calculations. But perhaps somebody is also interested in comparing these options? :-)

I think beyond the question of the flat damage output on level X, it's also a question of "how does this build develope". I believe, it could be a bad idea to play a build that only makes fun and developes its advantages after you hit level 18 or so.

Best regards!

it's just a guess, but i believe an extra attack should not be the only reason to go for a specific class. I don't know how much raw damage it is, but your main damage comes from sneak attack.
