Rokugan D20: The Winds of Blood (Chapter 1)

Running forward with the intention of doing his best to protect the fallen monk, Kyuzo notices that the need for this is gone when the bandits turn tails and run away.

He knows well the futility of trying to follow them while still encumbered by his armor.

When he sees Takane moving to aid Fan, he keeps his pace until he reaches the downed bandit, hoping he will find him still alive.

While sheathing his katana again, Kyuzo hears the slight sound of an arrow passing him by and watches one of bandits fall without a sound, the back of his head pierced by a single missile.

Smiling inwardly, Kyuzo realizes that his first impression had not deceived him, as the Mantis samurai was a superior archer indeed.

Kyuzo finds that the bandit is down, but stil alive, his eyes barely seem to register his presence. The man ha sa scruffy face, and smells of body oders, he has not bathed in some time. Fan does not look much better off.

The first bandit to fall to Michiba's arrows is dying, bleeding from the wound dealt. While the second is still laying in the grass some ways away. The wind blows softly, making the tall grass sway in waves.

When he sees that the downed bandit before him is barely holding unto consciousness, much less able to speak in a meaningful way, Kyuzo calls out to the Unicorn Shugenja:

"Kaiji-san, are you able to help out? We need this one alive!"

Kaiji is glad when the bandits run away as they notice he's protected by the water kami, and immediately goes helping the monk. He smiles at him as he tends his wound: "Don't worry, Toritaka-san, relax and accept the help of the water kami." Then he concentrates to let the peace he feels inside show outside, allowing the water kami to heal the monk.
Kaiji casts Path to Inner Peace/Cure Light Wounds
"You have been brave to face them like that. You'll have your revenge."

Then he runs where Kyuzo is calling him, but he doesn't fell like praying to the kami to help the bandit so he bandages his wounds and heals him at his best.
Normal Heal check to make him stable. I take 10 on the roll.

"Now he'll survive till proper judgement. I'm really sorry for your relative." Kaiji says as he put a hand on the samurai's shoulder. "She didn't deserve it. If you want I'll care after her once we carry her to the village. Now, should we pursue the last bandit or wait for Basho-san? I guess my horse can still catch up with him."

Fan looks up from the flat of the his back, as a wavy figure of Kaiji heals him. He feels his wound closing over and his strength regaining.

Fan stands up and bows gretefully to Kaiji. "I am much Obliged Kaiji.I do not wish Revenge, I know that the law will avenge me. The last remainging Bandit will be caught. Is there anything I can do to clean up this mess?"

Michiba walks over to Fan and good naturely slaps him on the back. "Fan-san, you did not need to take on all those bandits by yourself. Don't get greedy!!" A broad smile spreads on Michiba's face. "I am glad you are alive! I did not want to loss my new friend so quickly. We have many more bandits to fight!"
Turning, Michiba gives Kyuzo a short bow. "Since Gunso-Sensei Basho-sama has gone ahead, I think you should lead us! What do you say Kyuzo-san? What should we do now?"

Fan laughs a little bit at his new friend. "Well, you guys are too slow, I say we clean this up, and go to the village"

He starts walking to the body of the man with the arrow in his head.

Kaiji heals Fan with the spell, healing back 6 hit points to the wounded Monk. Then he is able to stabilize the bandit, though he does not come to, he does not bleed anymore either, and seems with time, he will pull through.

"I thank you for your kind words, Kaiji-san. However, there is little cause for sorrow, since Kaiu Asami died with honor in the course of doing her duty. Yet there still remains one matter that must be taken care of before she can be properly laid to rest. It is imperative that we recover her Daisho as soon as possible. Only for this very reason it was necessary to keep this bandit alive.

I doubt that following the fleeing one on horseback would be a wise course of action. Noone can say if this will lead into another ambush, perhaps by bandits not as fearful of the Kami as these.
Also, one man alone might swiftly be killed by a single, wellplaced arrow."

Kyuzo chooses to withhold the final reason for his decision: A Shugenja might not be up to the task of owerpowering the bandit, regardless of his kami-given abilities. This calls for the skills of a well trained man-at-arms.
He is not going to risk the life of Iuchi Kaiji on this .

Takane walks back to the group. "Will we continue the persuit of the fleeing bandit? Or will we carry on with the bloody trail?"

Takane puts away his naginata and draws his katana into the sky. "I, for one, will do either way, but we must recover the daisho of our fellow Crab."

"Are you feeling better, Fan?" asks Takane putting his katana away.
