Michiba walks over to Fan and good naturely slaps him on the back. "Fan-san, you did not need to take on all those bandits by yourself. Don't get greedy!!" A broad smile spreads on Michiba's face. "I am glad you are alive! I did not want to loss my new friend so quickly. We have many more bandits to fight!"
Turning, Michiba gives Kyuzo a short bow. "Since Gunso-Sensei Basho-sama has gone ahead, I think you should lead us! What do you say Kyuzo-san? What should we do now?"

Kyuzo returns the bow:

„You honor me with your suggestion, Michiba-san. However, I‘m but a simple man, and we have one favoured by the Kami among us."

"But these are your lands, Kyuzo-san and Takane-san; and I'm afraid I have neither the courage of Toritaka-san nor the deadly accuracy of Michiba-san. I'd be happy to offer my advices, but I don't think I can lead you."

Kaiji sighes and continues "Maybe now the best thing to do would be to bring this one to the village and informed Basho-san they mentioned the Black Fan, whatever it may mean. Perhaps the bandit that escaped will do us a good service: he'll scare his comrades, and a scared man is more likely to commit an error. While you interrogate him, I'll come back here with the eta to purify this place, the kami are uneasy. That won't take me long anyway, my horse is still fresh and she'll like a gallop. Now let's move before the dark."

"Kaiji-san is correct. These are not our lands and I would be glad to have you lead us Kyuzo-san." Michiba give Kyuzo a deep bow. "And it would be just until we reach Gunso-Sensei Basho-sama."

"I concur with your advice, Kaiji-san. There is nothing more to be learned here and we should not stand idle, when time is of the essence."

"We shall also find, " Kyuzo adds with a slight smile, "that the question of leadership is no longer an issue when we reach the village."

"I trust, you are able to walk again, Fan-san? If so, we should make haste towards the village."

"Lastly, the question of transport of this scum is still open. Since he cannot walk, we are forced to provide a means. Will your horse carry him, Kaiji-san? Our only other option is for me to carry him, but I'd rather not sully myself."

Kyuzo bows once again:

"Very well, Michiba-San, if you and Kaiji-san insist, I shall take up the provisional leadership of this group. However, this will be only a temporary measure, until better arrangements can be made."

"For now, we should hasten to the Black Stone village."

Several peasant, eta, come to the scene of the ambush, many shocked to see such blatant bloodshed in these lands, they attend to their duties with the assiatance of Kaiji to cleanse the land of angry kami, and perhaps darker spirits.

The party of samurai arrives at Black Stone Village, aptly named for its obsidian mines and rih iron ore deposits in the surrounding hills. The villagers regard the samurai with deferrence, keeping to themselves, as word of the ambush spreads quickly.

Gunso-Sensei Basho is having a heated conversation with the local yoriki, a young samurai smoking a pipe, finaly the yoriki nods and goes to maintain some order, as Gunso-Sensei Basho approaches the arriving party.

He looks to the body on Kaiji's horse, and the wounds recieved by Fan, "It looks as if these bandits are becoming bold, tell me what happened over some sake," Gunso-Sensei Basho has the party follow him into a small sake house, where several individuals are spending the late afternoon relaxing and smoking.

Three soldiers relax in the sake house, most likely deputies of the yoriki, they are enjoying themselves with a simple game of go, and swearing. Two ronin, a man and woman are speaking amongst each other, the man looks to be a shugenja, for he carries only a wakizashi, while the woman has a daisho casually displayed on her hip. She has a patch over one eye, and several scars. There is a lone man in the corner with a dark kimono, with the design of rushing waves under a moonlit sky, and a wide brim conical hat, pointed at the top.

Gunso-Sensei Basho takes a seat, "The Yoriki will place the bandit in confinement, for now tell me of what has happened, and what you have learned."

Looking around, Michiba waits for one of the Crab samurai to reply to the Gunso-Sensei. As a long silence streches out with no one speaking up, Michiba answers the Gunso-Sensei's question.

" Gunso-Sensei Basho-sama, after you left. We examined the area around the wagon and Toritaka Fan noticed a man in dark clothing spying upon us. Kaiu Kyuzo called out for him to surrender and the man began to flee. I shot him and we came under attack from a unseen archer. When Toritaka Fan moved forwards he saw 2 more bandits armed with yari and the archer a few yards behind them. We attack them and we killed one of the bandits and captured another. One escaped into the woods beyond. Toriaka was wounded but Iuchi Kaiji was able to call upon the Kami to heal his wounds. After that we returned with our captive to this villiage." Michiba takes a sip of his sake after the long speach and waits for the Gunso-Sensei's response. "Oh and I almost forgot, the bandits mentioned the Black Fan which we took to be the name of their bandit group."

„Hai, Gunso-Sensei Basho!"

„Upon closer inspection, the dead samurai-ko was identified as Kaiu Asami, a distant relative of mine. We also found her daisho to be missing, probably taken by her asssailants.

Then a man was discovered to be hiding amidst the brush. He was clothed in black and even had his face covered. Upon being properly challenged, he turned to run. Tsuruchi Michiba downed downed him with a single arrow.

When Toritaka Fan moved to examine the body, three bandits left their nearby hiding places, claiming allegiance to something called the „Black Fan". Two of them, wielding yaris, engaged him, while the third took to firing with his bow. Toritaka managed to overpower one of them, in return receiving a serious wound, which was later healed by Iuchi Kaiji.
Upon catching sight of our Shugenja, the remaining two bandits took to flight due to them fearing the „Wrath of the Kami".
At this point Tsuruchi Michiba brought another of them down.

I declined Iuchi Kaiji‘s request to pursue the fleeing bandit alone on his horse, since we did not know whether further ambushes lay down his path of flight.

The bandit we brought with us was kept alive to be questioned.

This is my report, Gunso-Sensei!"
