Rotten pregenerated PC's at WotC

While not obvious unless you're familiar with Eberron, the monk is on his way to taking the Whirling Steel Strike feat, allowing him to treat a longsword as a monk weapon (and thus use it with his flurry of blows ability). Since this is an opportunity unique to monks in Eberron and I may at some point raise the level of the PCs for VDD, I'd like to keep him on this path. Swapping ability scores is certainly an option, though.

Edit: Somebody else already pointed this out, and with the one level of fighter, it makes it possible for the monk to have it at 3rd level. Thanks! :D

It's no secret now that a WizO position is a real job with a paycheck. Beyond that I cannot elaborate, due to the NDA.

but that still doesn't help those of us with faulty memories. so it's best if i just say iirc. it makes it sound like i know. when i may not remember correctly at all.

diaglo "scribe over at WotC"...

Man, I dont see any problem with the character, some people I think are to used to power gaming or stacking. If it was rolled thats what you make of it, a good player can take what hes given and turn it around, like the armor can come off, things can be found etc..

You saw no problem, but immediately noted that he shouldn't be wearing his armour, and that he'd need items before he was decent. That about right?

Sure, someone out there might like playing this character, but it doesn't change the fact that he will contribute nothing to the party and then die. For some reason there are people out there who would call that superior roleplaying.

Saev, I think all of the people who were complaining failed to realise that these characters were made for a virtual dungeon crawl, rather than an ongoing campaign. Whereas a weak melee character with interesting skills and good charisma and wisdom might be fun to play in an ongoing campaign, it is clear that he needs to be tweaked for inclusion in a one-shot dungeon crawl.

Yeah, some people are used to their characters at least being remotely comparable to the iconics in power and not getting their tails handed to them by monsters half their CR, yes.

If you roll characters, you make what you can of them, sure, but in this case, you don't make a paladin of him. As a paladin, he sucks. As a cleric, he would actually be a pretty decent character (with different feat choices, of course). Even as a paladin, he'd be half-way decent if he swapped his strength and wisdom. Str 16, Dex 9, Con 14, Int 6, Wis 10, Cha 15 is a decent paladin. He'll probably want to multiclass to fighter as soon as he hits 4th level and gets Divine Might prereq (I mean Turn Undead, yeah, that's it), but he'll be a halfway decent paladin.

Otherwise, however, this amounts to saying "Rath is a playable character." Everyone knows he wasn't.

Basically we have DMs who tell us to "roll until you're satisfied with the results" which ends up with us having higher than the norm stats. There are times, I'll do a low stat for kicks. But I don't like a stat with a penalty.

I see it as a challenge to rise too. We can't choose how we're born, why not treat a PC similarly? :)

Maybe because we're playing heroes, not the "Average Joe".... ;) We like our characters to be able to do stuff that we, normally, can't do.

No we can't choose how we are born. But we can most certainly choose our career. This guy with bare qualifications as a paladin and not even able to walk around in his own armour made a poor choice. Party support cleric is an ideal role for him. Front line fighter-type is a deathwish.
