Not according to data I'm looking at....according to the 2004 sales data released by James on the private epublishers forum at RPGHost, ENWorld is listed as the fifth "customer source" (visits)....and the second "sales source." (actual sales), behind "Unknown" by a HUGE margin (roughly 12 to 1). The third and fourth sales sources, added together, approximately match ENworld, and there are dozens of additional sources listed after that.

Once I figure out where "unknown" is I'm gonna have to checkout their forums.

I just downloaded it. Your right. Well, either i misremembered the statistics that James and the Publishers quoted a while back on this board (most likely) that showed Enworld as the dominant factor, or the pdf consumer base has drastically changed. That sucks! Where is that old thread.... :heh:

Remeber, the 2004 data I released ONLY delt with 2004 sales as a whole. It was not a all time thing which is what I released here last year. Anyway, trends shift and they are amplified by the fact that I excluded 2001-2003 data.

For everyone else's reference, here are the top sales (and that's what matters, not just new customers) generators are:

134625 sales from Unknown
9551 sales from enworld
4499 sales from FreeArsMagica
4395 sales from motd (front page message of the day)
3682 sales from pigames (Politically Incorrect Games ran a hub for a while)
3639 sales from RALink (What's this???)
1586 sales from Banner Ads from RPGHost Target Ads
1544 sales from FreeTriStat (Guardians of Order)
1250 sales from rpgo (RPGObjects)

With the Downloader Monthly magazine (canceled now) bringing in about 700. RPGNet at around 400. And about 350 from our free banner exchange system (http://exchange.rpghost.com)

So what's it all mean? In a nut shell, promoting yourself on ENWorld is a must and ads from RPGHost are also rather effective. Releasing a major print product as a freebie continues to drive large amounts of traffic to RPGNow.

On that note, would all publishers please review the new policy in place regarding promoting your products at EN World.

Basically, from now on, if you're going to use EN World for promotion purposes, you need to give EN World the credit for that promotion. It's a small price to pay. :)

Fixed my sig and last post. Seems fair to me.

Well I've bought a fair few M&M related products from RPGNow, and everytime I've got there by typing "www.rpgnow.com" into the address bar of my browser... so I guess I'd have got categorised as "unknown".

In reference to the rest of this conversation, this does mean that I was going there not to buy a particular product, but to browse around and buy anything that looked interesting. This meant that I didn't really know what I was getting, since I only had the product descriptions, and any comments that might be there to go on, but I figured it was cheap, and that the good would most likely outweigh the crap.

Which sort of, mostly, seemed to be the case.

You have no desire to do so because it's never been marketed to you. Sorry, but even though I know you're probably seething with insistence that you're a unique individual, segmented marketing works.
You can turn down the attitude if you want to have a reasonable discussion. Thanks.
