Persistant shield as a 7th level slot? Not really. ;)

I don't know about that one ... It may very well be worth it to someone that has a lot of spell slots (specialist wizard, very high level wizard, sorcerer).

In the end, though, the feat should not be in the game. The game is balanced aorund the idea that a wizard's spells don't last too long. Allowing very short duartion spells to last far too long is a problem.

Possibly Arcane Sight, Detect Thoughts, and Blink. And all of those are highly questionable. That's it.

Persistent shield is a joke by the time you could cast it. (+3 mithral bucklers are easily affordable by then but more to the point, at 13th level, your wizard having an AC of 14 or 18 is no different than having an AC of 10).

Is there even a single arcane spell worthy of being made persistant? ;)

And please don't say cleric spells are weak (unless I got you wrong)... they surely aren't!

You are presuming that mithral is easily available in game. Just because your PC's can afford it doesn't mean that it's available.

I can't think of any arcane spells worth using Persistant Spell on. Wizards have less spells/day than clerics so losing a high level slot actually hurts. Losing a high level slot for a relatively minor effect from a low level spell hurts even more. Divine Favour's stackable +6/+6 however is definately worth the 7th level slot.

Ah, but Sorcerers get a bundle of spells.

Exactly. Sorcerers can afford to just cast a spell again if it runs out. No need to waste a precious feat or a high level spell slot.

+6 for Persistent Spell is way overboard, IMO. A Persistent Shield looks pretty pathetic compared to other 7th level spells. Energy immunity is 24 hours and it is far more powerful. The all-powerful Mind-Blank is 24 hours and is an 8th level spell. A +4 AC and stopping Magic Missiles is nowehere near as good as those.

I never really liked this feat to begin with, and now it seems to me to be even more worthless. Even as a Cleric, I wouldn't waste a feat on it. Most of the spells you would want to use it on (like the 2nd level buffs) can't be used with it. I agree with the previous poster who said that they should have just made a Permanency-like list of spells that it can be used with. But that's just my opionion.

... except for how casting a spell always requires at least a round. If you're in the thick of a fight, that one round where you're putting your buffs back up may be crucial, especially at the mid- to high levels.

But Quicken is cheaper now... still, they might have to choose between a quickened buff spell and a quickened magic missile .... I don't like magic missiles.

We're talking about sorcerers, D-lone.
