Rurouni Kenshin Is Incredible

I have been watching the show on Cartoon Network, and I must say it has moved up the list as the best anime I have yet to see. The last episode revealing Sojiros (sp?) past was unbelievably good, and once I acquire enough money, I am going to buy every episode I can get my hands on.

A word of warning, they are currently in the middle of the Kyoto story arc which is considered the best of the series. Many fans were not happy with the quality of the episodes in the next story arc.

The first season was good but the Kyoto arc is great. It is one of my favorite shows right now but I have heard that after the Kyoto arc it went downhill quick. The last couple of episodes (particularly Soujiro's flashbacks) have been heavily edited for TV. The first OVA is really good too (Samurai X; Trust & Betrayal).

They could have sufficed with just a 26 ep series isntead of the 95..
And yes I have watched them all.

It's not great.. more to the side of mediocre.

But they've got Spike Spiegel's voice actor as the villain. As ridiculous as it is to have warriors pausing for a minute at a time to comment on each other's style, it gives the show a unique style that can be fun.

The Rurouni Kenshin movie, though, is wonderful. We watched it in my college class for Samurai, Shogun, & Women Warriors.

What college is this?! I always hear about colleges with cool classes like this. Seirously, I hear about people taking classes about horror and action movies. My college sucked. :(

I've been wondering about the Rurouni Kenshin movie. It's Samurai X, right? Is it just one film or a multi-volume series? Also, is it movie length, or one of those 1 hr anime "movies"?

As to the series, I hated it when it began. I couldn't stand the goofy stuff mixed with the drama. I like it when a series sticks to one style. It's hard for me to enjoy it when a life or death battle takes place, and then someone's gets angry and their head expands to 12 times it's size and characters run around like Speedy Gonzales.

This arc, otoh, is shaping up pretty well. The little kid sociopath was disturbing. I didn't like some of the cartoonier characters like the giant and the pointy-headed guy who looked like he was wearing spandex.

And I wish they had picked a different voice for Shishio (sp?). His voice is too "nice". And it's weird hearing Spike, er, Gene, er, Roger Smith, er, Tom the Toonami Host.

There are two OVAs and one movie.

Samurai X Trust & Betrayal: It is the prequel to the TV show (from when he was a manslayer). It was a 4 episode OVA and now has been edited into a Directors cut movie. It is a must see even if you don't like the series. http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=210

Samurai X the motion picture: It is a adventure set during the time of the series. It was pretty good but wasn't near as good as the first OVA. http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=217

Samurai X Reflection: I haven't seen it but was warned it wasn't very good. http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=310
