S2: War in Vastermarch - Completed

OK. Let's assume you keep Tharok with you & take him to the stables. Then wake him up before you turn in for the night. Do you also insist on keeping Torvin with you? Or do you let them take him to the temple of Hyrag?

"I will escort Torvin," Juliana says. "He is having a... crisis of faith, and should not be left unattended."

The group splits up and heads into the war-weary town. The group seems to be trusted, and no guard is sent with them. Hugh does stay with the group and leads them first to the stables. Here they can settle themselves in with the soldiers and their horses. The town seems undamaged directly by war, but it is full of refugees, the tired and the wounded.

Holbrae is a town of about 1500 souls, normally, mostly humans and half-elves. It's population is currently about double that. It serves as the main town in this North central area of The Vastermarch, and, as such, has numerous temples, markets and government buildings. The economy is mostly based on agriculture and timber.

Many horses were lost in the chaotic battle with the orcs earlier in the day. (I actually believe all the horses fled, except the two that were killed. Juliana's may have stayed.) The party did get a second wagon, though, that was Tharok's and pulled the heavily armored ogre. That came with two draft horses, some food, ogre manure, and two bags of 100 gps.

Juliana uses one of those horses to take Torvin to the temple of Hyrag. Hugh leads him there, then heads back to the stables to help the rest of the group integrate. Hugh proves helpful, and has become quite loyal to the group, particularly to Ogrin. He can be overheard telling other soldiers and civilians about the group's escapades, which become slightly greater each retelling. He seems particularly impressed that Ogrin used his healing potion to save the life of the boy.

Tired, but safely in the stables, the group now circles Tharok as he awakens. He is an ugly half-orc, middle aged, with sharp, cruel features denoting intelligence. He opens his eyes and slowly takes in the scene. He scowls and turns away.

Juliana finds the temple to be crowded, having been turned into a makeshift hospital. All healing spells have already been used by the clerics there, but word of Torvin's appearence quickly gets attention. He is given a place of honor next to the statue of Hyrag in the center of the temple, and the acolyte assures Juliana he will be given promt attention in the morning after prayer.

OOC: Who has a good Intimidate check?

IC: Eusebius nods his thanks to Juliana as she takes charge of the wounded paladin. Although that is a difficult situation which he will have to address, and soon, he is of the opinion that Thorvin is currently the greater threat.

Juliana insists he not be allowed to roam free once healed, as he might be under a dark influence. If they question her, she says Father Eusebius can elaberate. She will also look into getting healing herself.

OOC: It's a charisma skill, so don't ask me :)

Talbin sets out to find a gnome by the name of Poto Knezer. He asks some people wheter they know the gnome and, if they do, where he lives.

OOC: Who has a good Intimidate check?
Beamer's size small so not much for indimidation. I think he has a +1 bonus when you include synergies. He's be happy to aid another by dropping a couple of acid splashes in Tharok's eyes to see how he likes being blind.

Hugh doesn't know Poto Knezer, but the first person local Talbin asks does. A stable boy bringing the group water tells him, "Mr. Knezer is a merchant and a trader. Owns a shop near the mill. Painted green and purple. Can't miss it. Of course, it's been pretty crazy these last couple days. I don't know where he'd be."

The acolyte at the temple seems a bit dubious about Juliana's assertion that Torvin is under dark influences. "He's a Paladin. He's immune to dark influences. He'll be healed in the morning, then the priest will talk to him." Juliana's healing isn't under his jurisdiction. "Captain Carter comes by right after prayer and coordinates the healing of military personelle. I presume that's what you are. You need to talk to him. There's more healing needed than we have available."

Tharok seems in no hurry to talk.

If no one feels up to intimidating Tharok, Banion will wait until a private moment. (He'll ask the others to make sure no one is about."

"Mr. Tharok, Sir. I know I'm not very intimidating, being little and all. However, if you don't restore my vision I'm going to start cutting off your fingers one at a time until you change your mind. I can't see at the moment, so I might not be able to cut them off cleanly. I'm sure you understand. Do you need a demonstration to be sure I mean it, or would you release your spell?"
