I'm hoping this is a mistake by USA Today. I tried looking around for some confirmation, but have not yet found any. Also, the article never mentions Firefly, but just lists it with some cancelled shows. It was only very recently announced they were putting the show on hiatus.

Show biz bites. Just last year, Joss had the Midas touch, and we had Buffy, Angel, two more Buffy spinoffs in the works (Ripper and the animated series), and Firefly. And DESPITE high quality stuff, most of these projects are being (or have been) flushed down the drain.

firefly is nifty. there's a few dozen petitions, the ad in Variety, and at least 3 other networks we can beg to pick the show up.

i've got my fingers crossed.

As for that time slot having done okay in the past, it did just find for x-files. Name three? Come on now, other than thursday 8-10, it would be hard to name three shows in ANY time slot that did well. I was just saying that it had done fine for sci-fi in the past (x-files), meaning the slot was not as hopeless as people thought.
Only reason why I mentioned it was because I had the same conversation with a friend recently and only X-Files "survived" that time slot. Farscape was close because it ran 4 seasons but the times were different every year (9pm some times, 10pm more recently). And Farscape has been cancelled, too. So my comment wasn't really a jab, but more like a question. Sorry 'bout that.

And on the topic of cancellation, FOX has already cancelled 2of my favorite shows that used to run during primetime (Harsh Realm and the Lone Gunman) so this would be just another horrible mistake showing lack of vision. I still can't believe this is the same network that gave the X-Files a chance to grow.... :(

Probably because FOX is now under new leadership than it was 10 years ago. And the The X-Files is not deemed as a science fiction show, more like a conspiracy series, and you know how we average joes have some kind of theories about what our government is doing with our tax money behind closed door, ever since it was made public about a $40 screwdriver in the DoD budget. You also have to remember, the old suits who supported X-Files are the same ones who kept Married with Children and Depp-filled 21 Jumpstreet on the air in the last millenium. Hehehe.

:D *** evil grin *** :D
