save me from Quark, somebody...

Oh, and Sean wanted to know if this is anywhere near The Comic and Gamer's Exchange or Past Present Future. (not sure what it's called now)

We are right down (South) the street from Past Present Future, like a mile maybe.

It just hit me that I might be assuming too much. Cathix, what version of Acrobat are you using? Or are you using some other distiller?

There shouldn't be any reason why you can't save this as a ps file, tell the distiller not to use subsets, and then create a pdf directly from within the distiller.

Of course, the PDF exporter for Quark would have been the easiest way to do this, provided you have v4.0.4 or later and a full version of Acrobat. I can't speak to whether newer versions of Acrobat like 6 or 7 are still compatible with it though.

Hellhound - Lulu changed their requisites that you MUST have full embedded fonts in order for them to print. I'm still not sure why.

I have Quark 5, and I was checking my PDFs and they all came out with embedded subsets. Next week I have some time (the boss is out of town!!!) and I'm gonna play with Quark and see if I can get it to output a PDF with full font sets. If not, then I'm gonna be really sad, and will have to comtemplate switching to (and learning from scratch) InDesign.

I know for a fact that the pdf export in one form or another works with quark 5, and there are definitely options to a) embed all fonts and b) turn off subsetting. The only catch is that you need Acrobat 4+. Other than that, it's as easy as pie. Even without the exporter, you can change those settings via the Acrobat Distiller. Now if you're using some other way to distill pdf files, you're out of luck.

I'll be sure to check that. I do use the distiller, so probably it's just a matter of not having seen the option before. Thanks for the help. I'll let you know how it turns out.
