SC2.0 Style NPC Generation For Modern

Hadn't thought of it, but I've a friend who probably has their contact data, might have him shoot it past them.

Costing is a combination of things. Partially I based my base assumptions on the GrimTales creature building section ... which is very complete, but very very very complex. It usually takes into account CR, but I also balanced more on EL. Usually, in d20, you create a creature balanced for its "CR". CR and EL are related, but not perfectly so ... CR is the power of the creature over time, while EL is the power of the creature brought immediately to bear ... the NPC gen (I think I'm going to change the name to "NPCs!") scales each NPC "on the fly" so to speak, so they're actually LESS about CR and MORE about EL ... the Encounter when they come into play is probably the only one they'll exist for, and if they're seen again their entire array will likely have changed from the scaling. In many ways the NPC exists outside of CR ... sort of a Shrodinger's NPC ... we don't know the exact state of the NPC untill we've "opened the box" and computed his stats at this moment.

Feats are a hairy problem. They're about equal in cost, though at low and high ends of the ACL spectrum they have an inverse relationship ... a perfect costing system would take that into account as well as increasing the price slightly after 5-6 feats.

Welcome to my world . I've been mulling over a NPC quality calles "More Feats" (or something like that :p) which would allow up to 5 more feats, at the cost of 5 each. I imagine something similar could be done with NPCs!

Another option might to be to raise the feat limitation as the NPCs become more important...

Ordinary NPCs can only have 5, but Minions can have up to 7, Henchmen can have up to 9, and Masterminds can have 11... Or something similar.

Heap, any updates on the PDF? Your system was referenced in a different thread and I'd love to take a look at your rules. I don't play d20 Modern, but anything I could use to save time when creating NPCs for my D&D game would be awesome!

Where is the pdf? Apparently I'm stupid/blind

Heap originally took it down while he was making revisions. Whether it is still down because he intends to make it a saleable product, I don't know.

Adamant Entertainment approached me and said: "Would you like power, fame, and riches beyond your wildest imaginings?"

And I said: "Yes, my Dark Masters, yes!"

And they replied: "Well, you're probably not going to get there writing supplemental products for RPGs, but drop us an email anyway."

As to the timeline for my riches and power, I can't say.
