Sculpting Project Nomination Thread

I hope more people jump in.
(Remember that you can sculpt in Sculpey, Fimo, Super Sculpy, Magic Sculpt, A+B, Aves Apoxy Sculpt, Green Stuff and more. You can probably use some plastic too, but check with Pogre first.)

One advantage of using RTV molds is you can use darn near anything as long as it dries hard and will not react to rtv (most stuff doesn't). When we get closer to time, I will speak a little bit about things you might consider about molds when making your project - like severe undercuts.

You can count me in, although now I'll have to buy sculpting tools.

Still kind of new at mini stuff though, and all the sculpting I've done is modifing mini's. But it sounds like it would fun to learn.

Cool. Welcome! Your experience is pretty much like mine - I have mostly done modifications and very few free standing pieces.

So far nominations in from:

copperdragon0
Dog Soldier
nyrfherdr
pogre
Shape D.

Anyone else want in?

I'll give it the weekend and assuming no avalanche of participants are forthcoming, I'll post the poll on Monday or Tuesday.

Do we know how much time we will have from the topic being decided to the submission date? I just want to make sure we have a decent amount of time to do it, but not so long that we have forever inbetween the different submissions.

I also wouldn't want to put you in the poorhouse casting constantly. ;)

I would like to throw my hat in too.

Like some others here, my experience is mostly in conversions also with a little bit of sculpting added in for unusual modifications.

For a nomination I'd like to see Warforged. Just cause I might be starting an Eberron campaign and I'd like to have a unit of them... LOL

I've never sculpted before unless you count Gap filling... Which in some cases I do :]
But I'd love to work on a Golem, Provided It does not have to be one of the standard Types. And The concept of Clockwork creatures is Also something I would be Highly interested in!

Or... We could go all out and Get some Volunteers from the 2d realm to provide concept art...
Randomize the pairings of concept artist, and Sculptor and then work as a team to come to wards the common goal... I also had a vision regarding the subject matter...
Have two columns column A could consist of an adjective (Clockwork, Undead, Demonic, Dire, Fiendish, Etc.) and column B could be a type of critter! (Frog, Hen, Hamster, Etc) And to make it even more random you could have the sculptor Choose the Adjective, and the artist choose the creature! And the sponsers could even Create a third column with Catchy tag lines such as ( Of Doom!, or Who had nearly fought the Dragon of Angor...,Etc...)
A little more involved yes, but I think It could be fun...

Hey D'Karr - great to see you! I'm glad you are jumping in!

Shape D. - I don't know what the deadline will be for certain. I agree with your sentiments about long enough, but not too long. I want to make sure people have time to make something, but not so much time the whole thing fizzles out. I'm open to discussion on this for certain. My initial gut reaction is around three months, but like I said I'm very open to discussion.

Phanboy - (cool handle btw) - Welcome aboard! I like your ideas - very creative. To keep it a bit simpler this time around and allow people to start sculpting quickly I would not want to coordinate all the 2d art. However, I do think it would be a great idea to solicit concepts in 2d art once we have settled on our "subject" and let sculptors pick up on a concept sketch if they so desire.

Personally, I'm a little intimidated by the process already - the pressure of producing someone else's 2d concept in 3d might give me pause ;)

I'm starting to think we need to keep it a broadbased category - I would hate for someone not to participate because the subject does not trip their trigger.

Hey Gang,

I want to keep the category broad too. 3 months is a little long though, I think. But, of course, work often interferes for me so maybe it's the right number.

I want to make sure people can post works in progress.
I'd be happy to see some concept drawings and I'd be happy to work with an artist, if someone wants to volunteer to work with me, but I can understand those of you who don't.

I like the broad categories myself. If this works well, we could do it again with a smaller category.

Here are some more ideas:

Graveyard: The graveyard could include headstones, graves, gravediggers, skeletons, ghouls, vampires, bats, wolves, rats, etc.

Dungeon: You could do a door, a trap, rats, snakes, monsters, etc.

Just some more thoughts.
Game ON!

Pogre thanks for the welcoming mat...

It's good to see you guys organizing this. I frequent the Sculpting Groups mail list but man I feel so out of place there. Not because they are rude or anything. As a matter of fact they are very friendly and helpful. But I just feel so far out of my league it's pathetic.

Like when Sandra Garrity posts, I'm like, what could I possibly say but AWESOME... LOL

Nyrfherdr, 3 months looks like a long time but I'm pretty sure for most of us that are starting it might be just about right. I know that for me, getting enough time to do any of these hobby activities is difficult enough, without adding the pressure of a short deadline.
