So which of the two do you think it'll be... and why? :)

(And no, I didn't include a "Who cares?" option. If you're not interested in who wins, then simply don't participate in the poll. ;) )

I hope Taylor wins.

Well, I thought it would be Chris. Then I hoped it would be Elliott. Now I'm .. meh.

Katharine, I really liked her mid-season because she knew what her strengths were (hair, lips, dirty pillows, etc) and worked them to her best advantage. But now she's getting whiny. Last week, the big boss man chose a song for her. The judges said "It's not the best song for you." She immediately whines, "But I didn't choose it!" I understand her indignation, but it came across as overly defensive and whiny to me. Everyone knows she didn't choose the song. The judges weren't saying "You didn't choose the right song." The judges did NOT want to tick off big boss man, so they couldn't exactly say "HE chose the wrong song for you." She looked bad when she did that. And she keeps making faces like "oh my god! you didn't like it?!??!?!" Bleh. Ech.

I like Taylor. I like his energy and enthusiasm, his voice and his performing.

As they said on "Ron and Fez" this morning, when they went back to their home towns, Taylor had a town waiting for him. Katharine had ... half a gymnasium and some neighbors in her driveway.

It alll depends on where the votes go that previously went to Elliott.

Hee.

I tend to agree with you, but, IIRC, Randy said something about it being all about "song choice," as he is wont to do, and I think she was reacting to that rather than to just a "not a good song for you" kind of thing.

I'll grant you one out of four. :D I'm actually not overfond of either, and usually I have a pony in the race, if only someone I desperately don't want to win.

I'll agree with the last bit. If things were as they were depicted in last week's results show (and that's always a big "if"), then it could be pretty close.

This season was the first time my wife and I have ever watched American Idol. We were hooked almost from the get go and it has been great watching these young people develop their voices and musical styles. We were shocked when Chris Doughtry was voted off as we had both pegged him and Taylor Hicks as the finalists. I really hope Taylor wins it. He is an energetic singer with a beautiful voice. Katherine also has a fantastic voice but her performances can range from amazing (Under the Rainbow) to abyssmal (Hounddog).

Sure, yep, he said that, as did Paula. BUT, everyone knew Katherine didn't choose the song, she didn't need to whine "But I didn't pick it!" like that. Randy was being diplomatic in not saying that the boss guy picked a bad song for her - he didn't want to tick that guy off. Her saying "But I didn't pick it!" pointed out to everyone that the boss guy picked it. It was a very bad move on her part. That's not a man you want to tick off, if you want to work in the music industry.

I thought her "My Destiny" song last night was horrid, putrid, off-key, and downright bad. Yet the judges said she sounded good. Bleh. What song were they listening to?

I hope Taylor wins. I tried to vote but couldn't get through. Although his purple velvet jacket was vomit-inducing.

Bah, Randy said something reflexive and stupid, and Katherine was perfectly fine in calling him on it.

And I actually got what Paula was saying (one of the few times) about Taylor when Randy said his one song was pitchy last night. Taylor isn't about perfect-pitch singing.

However, Taylor's rendition of "Levon" last night didn't seem to me to measure up to his performance of the same song early in the season.

I am voting for Taylor. Don't get me wrong, Kat has an AWESOME voice. There are some songs that she sings very well and sounds better than Taylor, but there are other songs that just don't work for her. The key here is consistancy. Taylor (and Chris, who should be here at the end) were ALWAYS consistant.

Well its over and I thought the finale was actually quite entertaining. I loved seeing Dionne Warwick - that should have been the final number though. The 'Brokenote Cowboys' and Prince were pretty anti-climatic after her. Taylor derserved the win and I am glad he got it. The whole Backerat (sp?) tribute was wonderful.

I've usually avoided the finale in previous years, but there was REALLY nothing else on last night, so my wife and I watched it. I have to admit, it was pretty entertaining, although I thought the best bit was "Pickler and Pauck." I wonder if she was instructed to play the whole thing for laughs. If not, she's lot a LOOOONG way to go to adulthood.

My wife was solidly for Katherine, but I was all for Taylor. It's nice to see someone win who isn't a "conventional" pop star.

I really thought the finale was very, very good, even if the conclusion was more or less known/guessed beforehand. In years past, they've really had to add a lot of filler (though mildly entertaining, last year's sketch about Simon being in love with himself is a good example). Granted, the show's gone more upscale over time, but it seems like "the industry" just collectively decided that there's a ton of money to be made here by showing up.

After Prince came out, I said to my wife, "I wouldn't have been more surprised if Ryan had announced that Elvis Presley and Jim Morrison were up next."

The only sour note for me was what I perceive as the continuing effort to try to convince everyone that Clay actually won. I have no problem with Clay, and I thought that bit with him and his fan was great (mostly because of the fan), but the producers seem to me bound and determined to rewrite "history," such as it is for this show.
