Sell me on D20 modern

Ok, well.. I actually have had it since, oh, my birthday in November. Gamma World will probably be the killer app that gets me to read it, but I wanted to hear from people who had played... so here I am.

Basically, I want to know what cool things you like in d20M, stuff that is new or altered from regular D&D.

You can give me examples of stuff, of characters, events, fights, etc. that you couldn't do with D&D.

I want to know what's d20M got going for it, stuff only it can do, or that you dig in it.

Thanks!

Do you like gunfight?

Do you like battle that is a big more dangerous than D&D?

Do you like checking out drow girls in baggy pants with thongs showing dancing at the rave?

Do you like confronting a mafia don surrounded by Bugbear bodyguards and Doppelganger hitmen?

Or maybe, just maybe, you think you're better than that blond-haired cheerleader turned modern-day vampire slayer?

Then perhaps you should take a voyeuristic peek of d20 Modern.

Want a break from magic and monsters?
D20M is just as potent without these things.

Investigative and research based skills allow for mystery and intrigue in addition to the usual gunfights and skull-bashing.

Want monsters but no magic? Blame the creatures on genetic mutation from hazardous waste, bio-engineering and DNA tampering, or even selective breeding programs conducted by an illicit organization (we've seen this in history and fiction).

I used some ghouls and said they had been animated using nano-technology.

Hehe, Ranger REG is going to think I'm anti-magic (Re: Future thread :)).

The rules are okay.

As a GM, I think the base classes as "archetypes" are an interesting idea, but my players just don't and don't get as excited as if they were to have classes that were more specific.

And when rangerREG said:

He wasn't kidding. That is an extremely prominant theme throughout the book. If you like or don't mind it, Then this is a good tool for you.

Also, and interesting Welath system, that I am not sure I like or not.

I would say grab the book and sit ddown and skim it for 15 minutes. That shoudl give you an idea.

Other than that, you know what they say, opinions are like a-holes.... Everyones gottem!

First of all what I like about it is the ability to create a diverse character. The base classes are great and if you combine them in the right way (the occupations and feats) you can create just the type of character you envision in your concept.

The Talent abilities of each base class are also great, I think it give a 1st level character more options then a 1st level D and D character. The odds of 2 1st level Strong Hero's being a like are greater then 2 1st level DandD Fighters being a like.

Then there are the guns and car chases, add in computers and its a great rule base.

I'm not a big fan of the Non-lethal combat rules. But that's me.

My gaming group has embraced the game since we switched from D and D a few months ago.

Mike.

Hey, Darren, my fellow Las Vegan

I recommend D20 Modern because odds are your players already have a pretty good understanding of the rules, and you won't have them balking at trying the new setting on those grounds.

And there are a lot of good reason listed above too.

benedict <-- yeah, that Dave guy
