Selling your unwanted stuff

First Post
My wife and I expect to make a major move in the next year or so, shifting from a homeowner, professional career lifestyle back to being apartment-dwelling, college students again. To that end, I'm looking at many of my possessions/hobbies and reevaluating their place in my life. ... "Do I REEEEEEALLY need all those game books? Some extra cash would be handy, after all."

So, please, tell me how you've dealt with the extra gaming stuff you don't want to keep. And is e-Bay worth the effort?

E-bay, sadly, is really worth the effort. You can sell stuff for their reall value. But if you have them, PLEASE post them. I would LOVE to buy some books from you. PLEASE DO POST THEM!!!! I should be on in another 3-5 hours, if you have them by then, I will tell you wich ones I would like, so please do post them. I don't have many books, so ther's little chance of you having a dupe of mine.

The problem I found with my unwanted stuff is that most people didn't want it either. I tried bundeling books. That worked out slightly better. So if you're getting rid of the Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting, I would crank the price up a buck and toss in Diomin d20, because otherwise you'll never get rid of it.

donate it to your group.

your local library.

selling it at a yard sale or online means work.

Ive always found Ebay an ideal medium through which to sell unwanted books. Last year I sold most of my 2nd Edition books as a bundle and got a fair price for them, and more importantly was able to ensure they went to a decent home :) It would have broken my heart to have had to split them and sell them one book here one book there... fortunately that was not a problem.

Market value on books various tremendously. Don't kid yourself in that you'll be raking in the cash as you'll almost never get what you paid for.

There are exceptions but heck, that's why they're called exceptions.

Bundling is one way of getting rid of multiple lots.

Another thing to ask is are you getting rid of it for money or space? If space, just give it to friends, library, etc... For money, e-bay.

re bundling: Thanks. I have also considered getting rid of my squirrel figurine collection (nearly 100 small statuettes, salt shakers, thimbles, etc.). As individual units, I can't imagine anyone wanting to spend the money on them; but as a bundle? ... Well, we'll see. Doing the same with game books makes sense.

I s'pose I need to explore the wild frontier that is e-Bay. I've never bothered before. From what I've heard, though, it sounds like the ultimate garage sale -- someone, somewhere, is looking for exactly the piece of crap you're trying to get rid of, no?

I suppose there must be some out there buying things at random..they old "impulse buyers", but Ebay is a great place for finding specific things or hard to get things.. or in the case of bundles a good place to find most of the things you need to get you going at a reasonable price.

With Ebay though I would suggest always reading a sellers or buyers feedback it is a good indicator of whether or not payment/delivery may be a problem before it IS a problem. If buying/selling internationally always find out the shipping price "before" bidding. From a buyers perspective Ive always found things go a lot more smoothly if you pay sooner rather than later once you win a bid, sellers always appreciate not being kept waiting. Also if unsure about an item you want to bid on...ask, send the seller a question, find out.. dont just bid blind and hope for the best. With bidding itself..common sense is not to bid until the last few minutes of the end of a sale, far too many people bid any time someone else bids on the same item as if having thier name as highest bidder for the entire duration of a lot means something... it doesnt all it does is unduely push the price up for yourself... save the bidding until near the end and pip the opponents at the post. Finally always leave honest feedback whether buying or selling as it helps future people who may deal with you or the other individual make a better determination of what to expect.

So what is your "peice of crap" that you're getting rid of. As for the Library idea, I think that would be your best bet. I have always wished that our library had D&D books, and you can garantee that they will mostly be taken into good hands.

I like selling via Amazon z-shops. Ebay just doesn't seem right to me. I don't recommend selling heavy hardbacks via z-shops though as their p&p charge won't cover the postage.
