Seriously, though, do you prefer homebrews?

Simple enough. You DMs: do you prefer running homebrews or boxed settings? Why?

I prefer homebrew settings. I love creating a world and running my players through stuff I made. For me, the creation is just as important as the execution. I do, however, use choice bits from published settings that appeal to me, molding them into my campaign world.

well, i said i run homebrews exclusively without even realizing that the only campaign i currently have going is Star Wars d20!

but for fantasy, at least, i always homebrew.

I put a little bit of time in my Homebrew, so it seems like a waste to use anything else.

Homebrew is my strong preference. Occasionally I'll pillage a published setting, but there are few published settings I would want to run as-is (in the D&D/d20 vein, pretty much Planescape and Scarred Lands, and that's it.)

As a DM, I prefer homebrew - and I suspect that this what you are going to see the most of.

A more interesting question would be do players like homebrews or published settings........ (and I suspect that alot of the votes would be due to the quality of the DM)

I hate making maps.

Homebrews rock, but as I have progressed past college, got married and work fulltime, i have little time for creating one. I hate making maps. I have picked Kalamar and am tweaking it to fit what I want. I hate making maps. I really like published worlds for their maps, I hate making maps.

wow, making maps is the part i like best about homebrewing. i love making maps. sometimes i make maps even when i'm not creating a new world. i love making maps.
