sex, drugs, ROCK AND ROLL! (humor?)

Well, that's one way to start the campaign ...

All of the characters are bards, or members of a travelling band/troupe of performers (wouldn't necessarily have to be bards).

They could be a rock band in d20 M.

And best of all ... they fight crime!

I see a new PDF product in this somewhere ...

Ahem.

Diaglo's going to love reading this, but such a game has already been produced, and will appear in this month's Dungeon/Polyhedron as a full Mini-Game by former Polyhedron editor Jeff Quick.

The game's called Hijinx, and in it you play a member of a band that just happens to find its way into a mystery wherever they go. The stand-alone game (meaning not d20 Modern) includes the following classes: vocalist, guitarist, bassist, drummer, keyboardist, DJ, and horn player. The game includes feats like "Pedal Air," which makes you run faster if you spend a round doing nothing but running in place and "The Wacky One," which lets you play a talking shark, a caveman, or some other strange creature.

Oh, and there's no fighting. You win over your enemies with the power of music.

Hijinx is meant to model old cartoons, and is meant to provide a few sessions of light-hearted roleplaying. Some people, predictably, will hate it. I think it's rather fun.

Standing in the rain
with his head hung low

Couldn't get a ticket
it was a sold out show.
Heard the roar of the crowd
he could picture the scene.
Put his ear to the wall
then like a distant scream.
He heard one guitar
just blew him away

Saw stars in his eyes
and the very next day.
Bought a beat up six string in a secondhand store

Didn't know how to play it
but he knew for sure
That one guitar
felt good in his hands.
Didn't take long to understand.
Just one guitar
slung way down low

Was a one-way ticket
only one-way to go.
So he started rockin' ain't never gonna stop

Gotta keep on rockin'
Someday he's gonna make it to the top.
And be a Juke Box Hero got stars in his eyes

He's a Juke Box Hero.
He took one guitar stars in his eyes
Juke Box Hero he'll come alive tonight.
In a town without a name
in a heavy downpour

Thought he passed his own shadow
by the backstage door.
Like a trip through the past
to that day in the rain

And that one guitar made his whole life change.
Now he needs to keep rockin' he just can't stop -
Gotta keep on rockin' that boy has got to stay on top.
And be an Juke Box Hero got stars in his eyes

He's a Juke Box Hero got stars in his eyes.
Yeah
Juke Box Hero got stars in his eyes
With that one guitar he'll come alive

Come alive tonight.
So he started rockin'
ain't never gonna stop

Gotta keep on rockin' -
Someday he's gonna make it to the top.
And be a Juke Box Hero got stars in his eyes.
He's a Juke Box Hero
Juke Box Hero

Juke Box Hero got stars in his eyes
stars in his eyes.

Music Critic (every level adds -1 CHA, no other special abilities, at level 10 you have to quit and post messages on online D&D forums ... not that I'm bitter)

Once there was blackguard and blighter, I decided that there needed to be the "fallen bard" class, which of course would be a Critic...

(reduce effective performance check by saying "that is SO OVER" in a bored voice....)

Remember when sex, drugs and rock'n'roll used to be 'respectable'?

Of course, back in those days they were referred to as wine, women and song...

Of course, the drummer class can dual wield drumsticks, and receives no penalty for the off-hand drumstick, as long as he has no shirt on...
