Shadowdark General Thread [+]

I think there was one in the Class thread as well, but what is a 'Witcher' in terms of class fantasy anyway?
I don't think there is. (I created a Buffy-style Slayer class, but that's about undead and demons.)

As someone who mostly watched The Witcher on Netflix during the pandemic (and then had it on while I did other stuff after that), I think of a dedicated monster-hunter fighter type with minor magical abilities. It'd probably need some WotC ranger-style favored enemy abilities, since giving it a buff to all "monsters" generally would be a huge power-up in most games. I might even start by making a dragonslayer class, which has a smaller and easier to define list of favored enemies, and then twist the dials after that to make a monster hunter.

Ou, then one of mine is something like that. :)

There is a pretty good Slayer Class in Letters From The Dark Volume II...

Kids love it when they die totally unfairly!

I know SD is simple, but as a parent myself I don't get it's status as the universal new basic set. Those first couple levels are punishing. And while there are fewer options, they are still beyond your average 8 year old I think.

But if it works for you.

I have an 8 year old and an 11 year old, and Shadowdark is their favorite system among those they've tried, including D&D.
