Shaman appropriate magic items?

I've been DMing on & off since the late 70s, and DM'd a successful 2 1/2 year long 3.5E campaign that wrapped up at the beginning of 2010.

We switched over to 4E in part because my work put me on this horrible project that really sucks up my free time and 4E is a dream to prepare when compared to 3.5.

I'm still getting a handle on magic items in 4E

The players are closing in on level 4 in game, so I need to dish out a few more magic items. One guy is a human shaman and I'm looking for suggestions on a shaman appropriate magic item that is around a level 4 item. Most likely the treasure of a goblin leader/druid-shaman type.

The group has two leaders (shaman & bard), plus a defender (fighter), two strikers (ranger & rogue) and a controller (wizard) and have faced mostly goblins and allies so far.

Depends on what the shaman build is, what items he already has, etc. I assume he has a magic totem but if not, you better give him one, it's almost time for him to get a +2. Hungry Spirits and Spring Renewal are nice.

The shaman in my game has a Cloak of the Chirurgeon, Leather Armor of Sudden Recovery, Iron Arm Bands, and a Viper Belt. Healer's Brooch is also pretty nice for the Shaman, but with 2 leaders he probably doesn't need it.

Well, at level 4, the party (having 6 players) should be getting 1 each of items leveled 5, 7 & 8, and 2 items of level 6. So I'll dig through my books and see what I can suggest for those levels.

That said, can you tell me a little about the character? What items does he have already? Does he have a preffered weapon? Does he have a weapon or other item he would like to use? What armour does he wear? Is there any special theme that we should think of in choosing items?

The first place to start, really, are totems, which the PH2 alone gives you 6 choices, though one is the generic "+2 item" that all enhancement based items get as a choice for level 6. None of these really catch my eye, though... most only have a daily power and/or crit effects, though that of the Hungry Spirits totem isn't bad (extra healing triggers are always nice). The one that does have a property (Autumn Harvest Totem) isn't that wonderful - just +2 damage to bloodied targets - but not horrible either.

AV2 has some more interesting totems. Bloodhunter Totem gives a + to hit bloodied targets and the Earthfall Totem does extra damage when you slide/push/knock prone a target. There are some other interesting daily effects, but best to judge those on whether they fit his character concept.

Anyway, I'll dig into other items once I know more about the character.

To be honest, I've been so friggin' busy with work that I don't know what builds most of my characters have. He is pretty much oriented towards healing and defense, but has a couple of pretty good offensive powers.

Healer's Broochs and Weapons of Healing are doubly nice for Shamans, because they apply to both healing recipients.
