"All houses desire power. They must, or they would not be where they are now. It's really a matter of whom you trust with power. I work for House Orien. Sometimes, at least." Says Raven.

Lorth watches the argument carefully. He has had little dealings with any of the houses and the contrasting views was fascinating. His teacher was right. This was the place to go to learn about the world.

"If this weapon is as dangerous as you say perhaps the House felt it best to key it secure, do you have evidence that he had evil plans brewing. And it is true that the houses desire power, but we didn't make these ourselves" he says pointing to his cheek "We were chosen! We have a purpose! I know that is hard to accept, but it is indeed a fact! I admit some have been corrupted by their power but it is unfair to judge all of us together!"

"I've found little good about the houses," Stulgar says in between swigs of his drink.

Interesting, drawls Corran. And just how did you arrive in Sharn? Was it by 'rail? By Vadanis-bred horse? Maybe even by a Lyrander skyship? The sad fact is that without the Houses you all would still be in the stone age.

"I don't think it's too much of an extrapolation to say that the ruthless House Cannith criminal who used his sword, magic, and constructs to assault, bully, and beat others to the point of death would, if given a weapon of mass destruction, use it to assault, bully, and beat others to the point of death."

"While perhaps in the past the houses stood for some greater purpose that was not a selfish and oppressive monopoly, in the case of House Cannith, I have not met the one yet who bucks the trend. Perhaps you do, but that makes you in the minority."

"...As I said, I will be glad to leave this awful place--in the wilds, things are much simpler. Even being ostracised out there was simpler, more innocent than the deadly games played by the greedy amongst the Houses here."

"We walked. And anyway, better to be in the 'stone age' than to submit our dignity to evil. Besides, though the ways of the houses seem universally oppressive, I have no personal evidence against houses Orien, Vadanis, or Lyrander. To the contrary, Raven serves Orien, and she is a good person. But Cannith, perhaps present company excluded, is a blight, their compound like a festering sore of evil and unnatural works."

Mathew looks over at Stulgar and says What about the Lighning Rail, our good friend Brews here, or this city itself. House Jorasco has healed countless people, House Orien keeps towns and cities across the continent safe and secure. The list goes on and on."

"I would say that the callous way that the Warforged were created to fight and be destroyed in war despite having sentience and a soul, is more proof to the ruthlessness of House Cannith. Playing god and messing with souls and spirits is not something for a mortal to do. Why do you think the spirits railed out against Cannith's headquarters in Cyre?"

So you attack Cannith for senseless fighting and the destruction of souls with the use of warforged in battle, yet you revere spirits that you admit might be responsible for the destruction of all of Cyre? Shouldn't spirits powerful enough to do such damage have been able to make it so only Cannith suffered for their "evil" ways?
He holds his hands up, showing a lack of true concern for the reputation of the Makers.
Trust me, I know how focused the Houses can be, but there are greedy, ambitious people everywhere one looks. Never forget that the Houses supplied the War, they did not begin it. If one starts to see evil in every individual of a group, one misses the opportunity to hunt down the true trouble-makers. Surely you, with your gifts from Balinor, understands that one or two sick individuals don't mean the entire herd is weak.

"Realy? That's neat, because I'm Lily d'Orien!" Lily giggles with glee. "My house doesn't seem to want me though. I overheard a house head calling me names in Regalport just before I left. He did say I was fourty year old pair of sight though, so he did call me pretty."
