So you attack Cannith for senseless fighting and the destruction of souls with the use of warforged in battle, yet you revere spirits that you admit might be responsible for the destruction of all of Cyre? Shouldn't spirits powerful enough to do such damage have been able to make it so only Cannith suffered for their "evil" ways?
He holds his hands up, showing a lack of true concern for the reputation of the Makers.
Trust me, I know how focused the Houses can be, but there are greedy, ambitious people everywhere one looks. Never forget that the Houses supplied the War, they did not begin it. If one starts to see evil in every individual of a group, one misses the opportunity to hunt down the true trouble-makers. Surely you, with your gifts from Balinor, understands that one or two sick individuals don't mean the entire herd is weak.
"Obviously the destruction was wrought of Cannith's hubris. Just because I say 'punished by the spirits' does not mean I think the spirits physically came and performed any action--everyone knows that the gods and supernatural beings have no direct agency on Eberron. And besides, the highest among that house are corrupt, as are their chosen officers. Thus, it does not matter if one or two are not similarly evil, since their quest is bound to fail when their ultimate authority crushes it."

"Your analogy with a herd is flawed, as those in Cannith who are evil are not weak, but strong, and thus they corrupt all else. Even those who think themselves good folk, if following the orders of the House, by needs are fulfilling the machinations of evil. It is nothing like a herd of animals with the weak among them."

(OOC: By the way, I'm not sure if E13 et al approved it yet, but you know that you can't actually hunt and get around in the wilderness with Profession: Hunter, right? I noticed it by accident when looking at your character sheet. It's not that easy to get around the lack of a skill on your class skill list (in this case, survival))

OOC:
That's an interesting interpretation, since hunter is listed in the PHB under profession, and it says the skill is about doing the daily tasks of the profession. It's not a big issue for me, as I only took the skill to fit the character concept (member of House Tharashk and a cleric of Balinor). It does pose an interesting question, however, since there's so much overlap between this profession and survival.
Thanks for the heads up, regardless.

(OOC: Yeah, it's weird, but by RAW you can use hunter to abstractly hunt prize game and sell them for money, but not to feed yourself in the woods, as Profession is available to most everyone and Survival is only open to some and explicitly handles that. I'm guessing it's more like the way that the big-shot elephant hunter who goes out on a safari to bring back the big kill might have no idea how to survive on his own in the wild, even though he does have tricks to catch that big one. Just figured I'd give you a heads-up in case you weren't sure and would prefer cross-class ranks in Survival (to which your Know: Nature will eventually add a synergy, at least, and I would definitely allow a proposal to let you substitute Prof: Hunter for a synergy if it is specifically listed--I wouldn't allow both synergies, but swapping out would be fine, I think), but if it's just for concept, that's great too!)

A look of sadness crosses Mathew's face. "Look I think we got off on the wrong foot. Let's just agree that if there is evil it must be stopped. Where ever it lies. He puts a hand on Lilly's shoulder "Of course that is what he was saying."

OOC: And even with a half-rank in survival, you're no longer unskilled. Prof: Hunter would be things like tanning hides and curing meat once you caught it right? Or are those in Survival too?

Lily smiles at Mathew, "Mommy's not here, and you're not a stranger," she says and takes a sip of the beer. She makes an odd face and puts it down. "See? I'm a big girl. It's time people start treating me like one!"

(OOC: You're actually okay to use Survival untrained. Also, by strict RAW, you need a full 1 rank to be trained, though yes, that means that Jack of All Trades 3.5 doesn't work as written)

OOC: The profession skill is flawed. It is designed to let characters make sense of what hey do before, after, or between adventures to make money like craft and perform. Unlike those skills profession does not obvious in game effects. I once had a lock smith maxed in Profession(locksmith) but he could not open locks by game rules. I think it should give synergy bonuses to related skills or something that but all it does is let you collect money out side of adventures and tlak like you know what you are talking about.

(OOC: I might allow 5 ranks in Profession: Locksmith to give you a +2 Masterwork bonus on Open Lock (does not stack with MW Tools, though). But this isn't my home game, so we have to play by the RAW, where you are indeed correct Mellubb)

OOC: Unless it's in the PHB, the SRD seems to hint that untrained is not having it, so .5 ranks would work. I didn't see anything specifically on it though. Though, looking further, This section is confusing, because 0 is untrained, and 1 is trained, but what is 1/2? I'd guess they forgot to think that someone would even think of using a skill at 1/2 rank, particularly because of how later feats are writen (Jack of all trades specificly).

Truly, all that matters is that evil is hunted out wherever it is. I care not if it bears a House name. I only want to make sure that no rash assumptions are made, leading the hunt astray.

OOC: Yikes, lots of confusing overlaps. I really only chose the skills for the background. I figure growing up Tharashk, that he would be trained to hunt, as it seems to be a good background for many of their real professions. Talking the talk is definitely his only real connection to game hunting. He's more interested in hunting fame and destiny.
