"It isn't dead--it escaped in that stupid flying ball, remember?"
The expression on Weapon's impassive face does not change, but his voice is a bit disconcerted. "I do not believe that is possible. But if it was, that would be a fate perhaps worse than rusting way. To be trapped in a sight sphere, with limited means of interaction and communication. That must be what Sargent Talis called 'going mad.'"

"Well, I figured that's what the ball was for. It seemed to be able to propel itself intelligently, as if the forged was controlling it. I'd figure they put it back in a body and then we have to fight it all over again."

"They said I was supposed to learn magic and take care of animals and things", Shoot replied. "I was one of the first ones like me, 'though I heard some of the others were scrapped. I'm good with magic, just ask Anvuss here!"

"Natural magic, huh?" inquires Seat. "You must surely know some rituals I´d like to study"

"Then they will pay us to find the tiny ball and smash it to pieces! Or find the machine again when the ball goes inside it. Either way they will surely pay us to crush their enemies.

The door to the Tower's Shard opened once more to reveal a tall figure in a long black cloak. Striding forward into the inn, the figure lowered its cloak to reveal the rust red face of a young hobgoblin woman, her yellow eyes scanning the room as she shook out her long, dark gray dreadlocks, resembling a lion on the prowl. "I hear tell that this is one of the few places in this backwater midden heap that can serve a decent korluaat. Barkeep, you'll bring one mug to my table to start with. After eightteen hours of searching through the stacks in Morgrave's archives to trace the full lineage of His Most Resplendent Majesty Urlaak Dhakaan, I'll certainly need it." Without a second glance at Brew, she sat down at an empty table and produced a scroll and a pair of spectacles from a fold in her cloak, momentarily revealing a glint of steel chain and crimson dyed leather beneath. She began to study the document intently as she waited for her drink to arrive.

"Look, Seat! Yet another scholar joins us. It is interesting to observe how much of the clientelle values learning. By the way, is Seat a name or a title? It sounds much like names I have heard warforged assume, but I have rarely seen biologicals who have taken their names from household furnishings. Did you choose to be called Seat, or was the name given you? Does it refer to where you sit, or for whom you sit, or perhaps indicate that you like to sit? And why is it that you seek to study divine rituals? I had thought that the practice of Divine Magic required little in the way of academic study, focusing more on devotion than on intellect? Do you think we should aproach this new scholar? She seems somewhat aggressive, and my knowledge of Hobgoblin culture is minimal. What do you think a polite greeting might be when aproaching a Hobgoblin female? Someone once told me a story involving showing affections by throwing object at one another, but I tend to suspect the story was a joke of some kind, and also that Brew would not appreciate the mess. Also, it is possible that even if conveyed straightforwardly, the story may have referred to romantic matters, and my intentions while friendly would not be of that sort. Do you find social situations to be perplexing? It is my experience that the rules are many and varied, but generally I find that if one conveys friendly intentions in a cheerfull manner, minor rule violations would tend to be overlooked. And also... oh, wait, that's right, I have been told before that it is considered polite to pause after asking one or more questions so that the other person has an opportunity to answer."

Anvuss pauses, looking at Seat expectantly.

"You´re thinking in Common. There are other languages: my parents thought we were withdrawing too much from our dwarven ancestors and choose that name for me. In dwarven has the connotation of <<not particulary fast or comfortable>>, but it was my grandfather´s name; it´s tradition."

"And why is it that you seek to study divine rituals? I had thought that the practice of Divine Magic required little in the way of academic study, focusing more on devotion than on intellect?"

"It´s a seldom approached field of study, sure, but not unheard of for those that have an academic approach to the divine. My interest is what happens when you perform the rituals: the actual worshipping lies out of my field of study and would interfere with an objective study. Which also would close my mind to the kind of obscure bits of data and magical knowledge that would make me famous. I value a more open view on magic."

Anvuss pauses, looking at Seat expectantly.

"I have no idea." says Seat. "We traditionally learn how to fight them at an early age -male goblins don´t like to be hit in the groin, for example-, but no how to start a conversation. Given that she´s not named herself, she also doesn´t know the taverns´ customs, so we should be careful"

The hobgoblin addressed Anvuss and Seat in a low, strong voice without looking up from her document. "You should mind the ears; they're very sensitive. You're quite curious for a warforged. Then again, most of my experience with your kind was on the Cyran front; by the time my squadron reached the front lines, they had been rendered uncurious in a particularly permanent manner. It was said that they were valiant foes, however." She smiled, but the fangs jutting out from her lower jaw made it difficult to tell if the smile was mirthful, or predatory. Drinking from her mug of strong hobgoblin spirits, she continued. "In any case, the dwarf is correct; I am indeed unfamiliar with this tavern's customs. And as it appears that solitude shall elude me for the moment, I may as well introduce myself." She placed her scroll down and turned to face the pair she was speaking to. "I am Meksoor Dhakaan of the Kech Volaar, scion of the glory and power that was the Empire of Dhakaan ages before man, elf or dwarf set foot upon our lands."

"I understand that your people were also valorous in battle, though I did not recieve any actual combat experience during the war. In some ways, perhaps the valor of both our peoples stemmed from opposite sources: yours from ages old traditions and a drive to renew the glory known by your ancestors, and mine from a complete lack of traditions or indeed experiences outside the war. In a future age, will the warforged still be considered valiant, or will we grow into a contemplative and peacefull people? The next few decades should be very interesting to my people, if we survive."
