D&D 5E Should Aasmir and Elderin be allowed in organized play?

For "organized play"/"Adventurer's League"? As in "official, publisher sanctioned, by the book, so everyone's following exactly the same criteria from table-to-table in public games everywhere"?

No. They should not be.

They're optional.

This pretty much outright states that Eladrin and Aasimar aren't playable in Adventurer's League games, at least for this season.
I wouldn't at all be surprised to see them allowed in the next season. Quite simply WotC wants everyone to buy all three books and the Organized Play in the past went though great efforts to allow just about everything at some points.

By strict rules, I guess they aren't allowed. Major oversight on their part.

Moreover, I hate that it is restricted to Tolkien races again. I really, REALLY hope that it is on their list of things to do to make sure Aasimar are available for open play in the future and they get official and properly play stats for Kobolds, Hobgoblins and other common races that exist within the setting as soon as possible.
Any race that can exist as an CR 1 villain ought to be able to exist as a hero.

Should they be allowed? Having played through the era of 'a warforged, a vampire, and a werewolf walk into a bar in Elturel' era of Living Forgotten Realms, I really don't see that the 'kitchen sink' approach to player options really improved the game experience all that much. It gave people with 'shiny object syndrome' an excuse to show up for a couple more sessions, but they lost interest in those shinies pretty quickly as well. I'd much rather see a dedicated setting book with the different Realms-specific racial options specified.

Will they be allowed? We'll know in a few weeks when the revised Player's Guide comes out, but I'm not holding out much hope that the voices of restraint will win the day here.

Aasmir and Elderin aren't warforged and vampires, or Shardminds they've been major races, Aasmir in 3.x and Elderin in 4e.

And I'll point for that it didn't improve the experience for you, that doesn't speak for wverybody, people wouldn't play them if it didn't for them.
