• NOW LIVE! Into the Woods--new character species, eerie monsters, and haunting villains to populate the woodlands of your D&D games.

Should PCs be forced to act a certain way because of their stats?

Note, I'd probably tag Pippin and Merriweather a bit lower on the Wis scale by the beginning of the LotR anyway. Wis 8 for both would not surprise me at all.

It would totally surprise me. Merry is both stalwart and level-headed.

As I said, it's been a REALLY long time. Which one likes to steal the farmer's crops despite the honking big dog? And which one makes all the noise in Moria that brings the orcs? That's the one I'd peg at about Wis 8. The other one, I can't quite honestly bring to mind too much.

On the flipside though, would you give Gandalf or Aragorn 8 Cha's?

In the books - the crop pilferer was Frodo, it was Merry who was friends with Farmer Maggot. And all the noise Pippin made was dropping a pebble down a deep well. Kind of a contrast with the movies, I'd say.

In relation to the OP. I don't force my players to do anything. I try to encourage them to roleplay a character based off of character traits they have given them. The crunch of the CSheet is already in effect with their rolls.

Like I said, it's been years since I read LotR, so, yeah, I can't really comment on the books in detail.
