There's something nice about the teenaged silly stuff in its own place, but if you try to have it sit next to anything well thought out, the whole thing will degenerate into a mass of vague silliness. And if you do that, you may as well jettison the non silly stuff.
So I for one would give at least a nod to both, maybe one book with a "serious" section of mostly campain setting, rules light discussion on things, and a "goofy" side with all the items, silly rules and charts, etc. you care for.
