With the advent of the Book of Vile Darkness, we from the Complete Guide to Unlawful Carnal Knowledge d20 are thinking about dropping the silly stuff from the guide (like the Pimp PrC, the Strap-On of Astounding e.o.).

Drop it. People would read the silly stuff and not look for the good things you have. With silly, people won't take it as seriously as you probably want them to. I'd poerfer a mature and realistic version of it rather to one that panders to the 12 year old demigraphic.

I voted for putting it in it's own guide; I'm not a fan of it but it does have it's place.

I awlays looked at the older Unlawful Guides to Carnal Knowledge as a big joke. Not something I'd bring to the table unless we ended up crude humor.

Even though I like mature topics and sexuality in my fantasy worlds.

It might be nice to have a guide that actually had solid rules and useful information. Rather than silly over the top rules or huge piles of uneeded charts for the teeny-boppers to compare 'sizes' and such with.

There's something nice about the teenaged silly stuff in its own place, but if you try to have it sit next to anything well thought out, the whole thing will degenerate into a mass of vague silliness. And if you do that, you may as well jettison the non silly stuff.

So I for one would give at least a nod to both, maybe one book with a "serious" section of mostly campain setting, rules light discussion on things, and a "goofy" side with all the items, silly rules and charts, etc. you care for.

Perhaps we should mark more redically 'silly' parts of guide with smilies or something. Helps you pass through those, when you want searching 'more serious' (yeh, serious indeed ;) ) stuff and helps you find those particulary silly parts too, when they are needed.

Would you like it done this way?

Some I would drop to another guide (see my reply in thread to get the idea), but much of it is just light hearted teen humor.

Maybe it could be given its own chapter. We could call it "Traditional Silliness" or something. :)

How many of who think 'silliness must go' has actually checked our guide now to see whatever all of it feels silly? I'd would be nice to know, what kind of stuff is usable. I don't recall this project was started thinking many people would be interested in the first place. We just wrote it, cause it was fun, felt like it, and then we just coudn't quit. ;)

That's for me, at least.

OK, since you ask.

I've scanned through a little of the threads, out of curiosity. My honest opinion was that there was silly content, offensive content, and talk about the project itself (non-content).

I didn't find anything else.

Its really only this concept of "we want to be taken seriously" that has rekindled any interest. (some incredulity to be honest)

To be blunt, in our group these guides (including the older one) are held up as the worst example of net-based content for rpgs. (i'm afraid we refer to it as the "14 year old american" effect - we being "mature" 20 something british people) Sorry, I know you're not going to like that, but its the truth.

As far as the comment about why you are doing it - because you want to and enjoy it is the best reason to do it, and given that motivation, why worry about whether others think much of it??

@Monkey Boy:
Sure, we do it, because we like it, but this poll is to see, what other people would like to see (and other people want to see it) and because we are not realy sure, what to do ourselves

(by he way, I knew some 20 something british people on University and those were rather silly (g))

Yep, this is just poll, and we fully well understand how most gamers think this kind of netbooks are silly and sexual stuff (especially handled this way) and some other things are unsuited for rpg:s in general.

That's cool, we are different this way.

@MonkeyBoy, I think choice 'I couldn't care less' is one you were looking for. There is no need to say same thing many diffrent ways.

People who coudn't care less, are amazingly often attracted to answer polls. :)

Thanks for answer though.

Btw, our thread here has hardly anything to do with guide content, those that had such content were mostly compiled in guide form long ago.

There's link for those you are interested in actual guide.
