Should you be able to use 'bonus saves' to help folks get out of 'end of turn' stuff?

its is not about the regular save... we had discussions about it...

the question is:

should you allow an ally to make a heal check to grant a save against a condition that usually ends at the end of turn... i.e.: should you be able to help your ally out of all conditions even if no save is explicitely mentioned?
You probably would have gotten a few less knee-jerk rule parrots if you had posted in the house rule forum.

Anyhow, yes, I'd allow my players to make saves vs. UENT conditions if they asked me. But unfortunately, my players aren't into house rules. :.-( Half of them like to play by RAW despite its flaws, and the other half don't seem to realize things like "UENT is better than save ends."

Yes RAW: no save

The question from the thread opener was: "would you allow it?"

My answer: yes!

Why should i post anything in houserules? Never opened a thread about it, just voiced my opinion in this "Discussion" forum. Also never complained or noticed knee jerk reactions, just explained, that the thread opener asked about "extra saves"...

You can't make a save against a condition which doesn't allow a save. Yeah, this means (save ends) generally sucks. Them's the breaks.

My only save-related house rule is: bonus saves never make things worse. They don't speed up your petrification, for example.

You're hurting most PCs and several monsters.

Heh, that was my first house rule and first errata request, before the game was even published.

I was pretty happy when Player's Handbook 2 came out a year and change ago and made it official... so, not a house rule anymore.

Is there an echo in here? Yeah...

It very well could still be a house-rule with the above poster's game. Not everyone uses PHB2 or errata in their games. Therefore, if you're playing strictly by what's printed in the PHB1, you could very well have "house rules" that deal with issues that have already been fixed in the "official" version of the rules.

It was mentioned elsewhere, long before PHB2 - perhaps an FAQ/Update?

Personally I don't think that granted saves being able to stop EoNT-style effects is going to hurt much. It changes (stun) eont into something that makes the game more interesting (because people rush to remove the stun) instead of something that makes the game more boring (because there's nothing to be done).
