Both.

I've played a ranger with Self-Sufficient and a mage with Skill Focus (Concentration). The latter is a very common feat.

In Modern, Skill Focus doesn't exist as a feat, but +2/+2 feats are occasionally taken.

I answered both, but understand this was only due to those feats being prerequisites for various prestige classes. If they had not been, I would not have taken them.

Luck of Heroes appears as a Midlander background feat in the Wheel of Time d20. I don't know where else, if anywhere, though.

Its also a regional feat in the Players Guide to Faerun.

This is why i soooo want a Feat Compendium. I'll probably never have access to those books (not playing in Forgotten Relams and not liking Wheel of Time).

I had a Cleric who was a religious scholar take Skill Focus (Knowledge: Theology) and Endurance so that he could study theological arguments late into the night . . .

One character, a ranger wizard when he was 3.0 had education (prereq for harper mage), skill focus planes(harper mage bonus feat), skill focus spellcraft(harper mage bonus feat) then became a loremaster. When 3.5 came out he turned into an eldritch knight instead.

I've had characters that've taken Skill Focus occasionally, with the space-padder +2-to-two-skills feats being even more rare. You might see it if it's a pre-req for a PrC, but other than that it's pretty unlikely.

And I'll admit a personal irritation with some of the skill feat/PrC reqs thing. There are times when a PrC's requirements seem to include a feat for mostly punative purposes. Like having to take a crappy feat is part of the price of admission. That irks me to no end. Each feat should be at least reasonably worthwhile in and of itself.

Sneaky rogues can't go wrong with the stealthy feat.

And wizards should take skill focus (concentration) instead of combat casting. It's way better to have +3 in all cases when you use a skill than +4 in a single use.

I have played characters who have taken skill focus for concentration.

I think that the feat requirements for a prestige class should reflect the basic concepts of the prestige class. So, I can understand requiring spell focus for certain PrCs. However, I have been puzzled as to why some feats relate to the concept of a PrC.

Twice I've been close to taking alertness, and once I was close to taking Skill Focus(combat casting). But I never did. In my group, one player took Negotiator. That's it in about 40 or so characters we've played.

I'm not sure it would be any different if Skill Focus was +4 or even +5. The feat is just not exciting enough.
