[Slightly OT] What to do if you're invited into a group?

Oh, and from bitter experience, don't try and sniff their crotches. I'll never try that again!

Oh, c'mon now. Some of us gamers do occasionally bathe! Were they really that bad?

show up on time.
roleplay well.
respect the new groups rules.
bring a snack, and enuf to share.
ask, don't assume.
respect everyone, but thank the d.m and the host.
ask them to explain their silly saying and group superstitions, everyone loves to tell the story (again).
try to remember p.c. doesn't stand for "perfect character".
make a list of questions you have about the world and situation, then only ask when it is slow or noone else is takign a turn.
have an opinion.
remember it is only an opinion.
make a kind gesture to nonplayers who share the household.
clean up after yourself.
laugh as loudly at your mistakes as at those of others.

(edit, just seemed like a good list. i assume you have these down already nightfall :) )

I have been involved in 3 different groups that have gotten together via email.

All 3 times, it was to start a completly new group. The first time we met was just to get to know each other, decide who would DM, and maybe create characters.

If your being invited into an existing group there probably already is a DM. If its a new group, in all likely hood a DM has not been decided on.

If the group plans on meeting every week and two people want to DM. You could try alternating campaigns. I have found this to work very well.

Didn't Phillip K. Dick originally write that? :)

Regardless of who wrote it, alsih2o's advice is VERY sound advice.

And to second P-Kitty's advice, no grabbing of crotches, either. It worked for Crocodile Dundee, but that works well for others may not work for you. :)

i don't know who that is. i was shooting for a sort of "everything i needed to know i learned in kindergarten" feel.

"have an opinion, remember it is only an opinion" is one my dad used all the time :)

One would think being a herald and sage you would have invested a few points into these skills:D

Yes one would think that Tur, but unfortunately they are VIRTUAL points. They dissappiate in RL. ;)

Try to keep an open mind about non-SL games; if that;s all you talk about and they don't know it, they may be a bit put off. It'd be a shame if that happened.

*rolls eyes* I DO have a life outside of SL PC. I do assure of that. I'm sure I can also control my SL urges and see what else they enjoy that I might relate to.

Nightfall: If you don't mind me asking, where did these folks hear about you? FLGS, here, player/DM database? The person that contacted me did so from seeing my location here so I am curious.

Wizards of the Coast General Board. Perhaps I should be wary. I mean they haven't called yet...but it is only Friday.
